SOURCE: johnson 4 stroke 115 hp will not start. fuel

Sounds like and injector problem to me. If it was a 2 stroke I'd tell you to pull the carbs and clean them ,but EFI is a whole different story. Most certaintly a fuel problem, most likely injector related, you'll most likely need to go see a marine mechanic with the proper equipment to analyze, rather than start replacing parts you may not need.

SOURCE: how to remove the lower unit on a 35hp Johnson outboard yr 2000.

if you haven't fixed this already, take the pastic water pick up covers off there are two joiner nuts in there undo them, there is a plastic cone on each end take them off and it will slip through. I own the same model and year outboard.

SOURCE: how to remove lower unit on 1990 115hp Johnson outboard

First thing you need to do is remove the shift pin it is located underneath the carburetors it is a 3/8 head you will probably need a 1/4 drive swivel socket. After that you can take the bolts that hold the lower unit on off. I think there is four 9/16 bolts on the sides and a 5/8 above the prop and you might need to take the trim tab off and get another bolt under there. It might take a dead blow hammer to get it loose. If you are doing a water pump it is pretty easy just make sure to spin the drive shaft clockwise while putting the housing back on

How do you service lower unit on a 1989 Johnson outboard motor?

What do you need to do? It is easy to open the two screws to drain lower unit gear lube but drain into a container and not on the ground. I have a pump that I use to replace the lower unit lube. Pump hooks up to quart or larger size lube supply. I have seen U TUBE videos if you need instructions.

After running my johnson 4hp 2s for a couple of hours in the bay it starting giving a strange noise and then cut out.i managed to get it started again but coudnt get above half speed.

Hey Pete.. this sounds serious.... will it rev up while in neutral? If it revs freely and high.. the power head should be ok.. if it will NOT rev up freely and high.. STOP - you are causing more damage..
Check the compression with a good gauge..it should be 125psi minimum.. with no more than 10 psi difference between any two cylinders.. DO this WITH the THROTTLE WIDE OPEN...
Can you turn the propeller by hand while it is in neutral?..Of not.. this is the problem.

Just bought a 73 Johnson 115 that's been stored for two years wondering what kind of Preventive maintenance should I be worried about before taking it out on the lake?

Change lower unit lube, use fresh gas mixture with added Seafoam. Run as before, but longer. You can download manual from the web. Has P.M. instructions.

My 2001 115/HP Johnson outbd was starting hard last weekend. By Sunday it started to run ruff but would clear at higher power setting. When I pulled the boat out of the water I lowered the motor to drain...

The lower unit and oil draining is in no way related to the motor. They are two completly separate units. The g/box is totally self-contained.It sounds more like you have an engine problem. You don't say if the motor is carby or efi(fuel injection). If carby,The carby's are playing up.Be it float levels, stuck needle and seat.A prob. But not a big one.If it's an efi motor it needs to be serviced and so does a carby motor. You don,t have a big prob, just a service one.Hope this helps you
