I was scrolling the frequencies and stopped to listen to a conversation. When I tried to continue scrolling it would not restart. I tried to turn the dial and it would not change frequencies. It will not respond to any buttons. I can control the volume and squelch and the off and on. That's it! I pulled the battery, tried most everything.Help!!!

I believe that its because you are in VFO mode. Click the v/m button, It should switch to your pre programmed memory stations and the save will stop flashing.
Firstly, are you a licensed Amateur Radio Operator, if not, you are breaking the law buy transmitting on that frequency. The Amateur 2 metre band, which covers 144 - 148MHz is for the use by Licensed Amateur Radio Operators ONLY.
You are free to listen to these frequencies, because you are a listener, and the radio is being used to receive ONLY.
But you CAN NOT transmit on these frequencies.
If you get caught, you will be charged under federal FCC laws governing the use/misuse of radio equipment and a heavy fine &/or imprisonment can be expected. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
Try using a headset and the buzzing should go away. If you are hearing them through your speakers then the mike could be giving you feedback. Also try turning down the volume a bit and see how that works. Hope this is of some help. Bud
Here is a good website with radio mods for most radios, here's the mod for the vx2, also note the other files, I guess that radio has had a few problems in the past.... http://www.ham.dmz.ro/yaesu/vx-2r-freeband-mod.php
this address should help you out http://www.ham.dmz.ro/yaesu/vx-1r-ext-mic-diagrams.php
as for the service manual you will have to order that from yaesu or see if the local Ham radio sevice shop has an extra one they will sell.
