the inverter is power, only, not data.
tell the customer the bad news.
find new LCD panel. for $50 to $100
this PC sells for $10 , uses as/is, broken
that is its street value. !!! 10 bucks.
(means junk class)
so tell the customer the fix is 5 to 10 times value of PC.
buy newer working PC is far far cheaper.
buy a PC 2010 and newer, and avoid your above
CCFL back lamps like the PLAGUE.

Sounds like an inverter problem. If the power supply is internal replace the capacitors coming out of the voltage regulators. These are usually 1000mf and/or 470mf. If that doesn't do the trick look up the numbers on the 8-pin chips that drive the secondary transformers on the inverter to see if they are getting the right voltages.
Good Luck!
SOURCE: Compaq Presario R3000 dim screen but not dark
Sounds like the auto-dim in the BIOS is set too low. Fortunately the Compaq R3000 allows you to adjust the brightness right from the keyboard. Hold down the [FN] function key while tapping the [F8] key will brighten the screen, while [FN]-[F7] will dim it. The settings are different for running on AC power and battery, so you must do each individually.

Defective CCFL backlight may has the following symptom:
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp)
has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.
Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

SOURCE: my compaq preasrio r3000 black screen cant conect to an external
have you any other A/V ports out ie Svid etc if so try that via an A/V lead, if that works reset your bios settings to minimal settings, if that doesnt work search the 'net someone somewhere has had the same problem! try shining a flashlight/lamp onto the screen whilst booting up, if you see anything on the screen then your inverter is definatly gone and yes it could still be your inverter! your laptop may have software/hardware issues with an external monitor?
SOURCE: Black corner on laptop screen and burnt smell
The problem you have is caused by a defective LCD inverter.
They really really fragile and the job of replacing them can be quite tedious.
There is not other reason for your screen corner to became dark.
Send it back and tell them that the replaced part is defective or it was not properly installed.
I hope this help you out.
