Kicker advises not to overdrive the system because it can burn stuff up. Having that much power does not mean you listen to it that loud. It means there is something called headroom in amp range that allows it to supply the needed power for bass response when it has to. There is also the issue of impedence of the speakers and how it affects wattage. Lower impedence impedence results in higher wattage at the cost of heat. There is nothing listed I see that can take all that amp has to offer. Also be sure that the cross over is working to seperate the signals to the speaker.

SOURCE: voice coil makes burning smell

a lot of subs will make a smell when hot. if there is no indication of blown subs turn your gain down on the amp a quarter turn see if that helps. same with bass boost.

SOURCE: what does sub sonic mean on my Kicker kx1200.1 amp? Do it need to be off or on?

Subsonic refers to frequencies too low for the human ear to hear. Generally humans can hear frequencies in the range of 20 to 20000 hertz (cycles per second), but we hear best in the range of 1000 to 4000 hertz. High amplitude subsonic frequencies can cause damage to your speakers so many amplifiers have an electronic filter in them to reduce the amplitude of these very low frequency signals.

I have phase linear uv8, need to know how to get subs 2 work! Amp goes into protect mode when rca's r plugged in, there r 3 sets of preamp out puts 1 front left and front right, 2nd is rear left rear...

try testing the amp without speakers plugged in. Run the sub preamp out to the amp that you will drive the subs with, but don't wire up the subs yet. Test for protect mode kicking in.
Yes - unplug the rca ins from the amp. retest.
No - Problem lies within the sub wiring. What is the load on the amp (measure with an ohm meter)? If it is below 4ohms, chances are the amp can't dip that low. Give it more resistance by wiring it differently (series vs. parallel)

What Amp would i need to push three Kicker L7 12's?

Hello,

It depends on the specific subs and exactly what you want out of them. You have practically unlimited choices for amps.

The 10" L7 has a power range of from 30-600 watts RMS, the 12" from 50-750 watts, and the 15" from 100-1000 watts.

So if you have the 10's, you would want an amp that puts out at least 90 watts RMS and not more that 1,800. Unless you are really into SPL and have an unlimited budget, it's probably best to go somewhere in between.

Keep in mind that these Kickers need to be in a proper enclosure. They like a little more volume to work as compared to RF's or MTX's and some others.

AMP shuts off

your problem could be in the fact that you are trying to overdrive the amp. sony will not carry a 1 ohm stable load and if your speaker are 4 ohm speakers wired in series then you cant drive the bass your looking for. try using soundstream tarantula amp or new hifonics block mono class d amp with about 1000 watts rms. what kicker subs do you have? that will also make the difference in amp choice. im running tarantula on 4 polk momo 4 ohm 12's and has broke my back glass in my jeep twice one time was for a show. oh well let me know. happy boom boom. i'll be glad to help

How to order

The L7 I have is brand new in the box (not a speaker box just the retail packaging box) and the rms is 750 watts RMS and 1500 watts peak, but you are correct they blow easy when you push rated power to them, the hifonics subs will take 1200 watts rms all day long and over 3500 peak for burping at competitions, i run mine at 2000 watts everyday in a daily driver. if you hook 1 dual 4 ohm sub to a zx1000.1 it will be 2 ohm load on the amp so you will get 1000 watts to the sub so if you want to run it slightly underpowered to keep it from blowing use the 750.1 per sub, i can do those at about 250 each shipped

the price is 150 plus 10$ flat rate USPS shipping and yes I accept paypal [email protected] .

the warranty starts the day you buy it for 12 months but kicker will not cover burned or blown voice coils, that is why i recommended the hifonics (which is what i use to compete with now) because they put out better quality sound and alot more of it and they will take alot of abuse, if you want boxed speakers ready to go in kicker brand ported boxes I can have them drop shipped right to your door as well, the only reason i am selling the 1 L7 i have so cheap is because a customer ordered it then never paid for it so I am selling it at cost. be careful if you are buying on ebay as you have no warranty at all and you cant force the seller to give you 1 even if they say it has 1. because authorized dealers are not allowed to do internet sales at all so kicker and most other companies will not honor the warranties.

also you dont need 2 amps you can use 1 bigger amp and still run 2 subs just by changing how you wire the subs at the amp. 1 large amp costs less than 2 smaller 1's usually just not with kicker brand

huge shared common space slot loaded box (size depends on sub 10", 12" 15" you need to clarify that please) the amp specs on earthquakes site say the phd5000 is rated at a max output of 5k watts at 1 ohm 3k watts at 2 ohm so, with 3 dvc 2 ohm subs you only have 3 options of which only 2 will be a usable solution:

1. 3- 2ohm dvc series at sub parralel at amp = about 1.33 ohms at the amplifier this is the best option to get the most power to the subs as each sub will produce a 4 ohm load then wire each one to the amp the amp sees 3 4 ohm parralel loads which = 1.33 ohm so based on the amp specs you would be close to 1200 watts per sub.

2. 3- 2ohm dvc wired in series at sub and all 3 subs series wired together very difficult to wireand will give you a 12 ohm load which is next to no power at all (not a viable solution)

3. 2- 2ohm dvc parralel wired to each other and then at amp the amp sees a 1 ohm load and makes 5k watts max but you can only (REREAD THAT LINE! ONLY USE 2 SUBS IN THIS WAY) WHICH GIVES THE MOST POWER BUT ONLY USES 2 SUBS

What amp to use

recommended maximum for the sub boxes is 1600/800 here is the link to the manual if you need it; http://www.kicker.com/06/tech-support/manuals/manuals/2007/2007%20CompVR%20Box%20d01%20Web.pdf If you really wanted to get the maximum from your subs then a zx750, or possibly a zx1000 would be the ideal choice. Either amp you suggested will work, but you will have more fun with a 750 which should do fine. Hope this helps :)
