Probably the disc is not seated correctly...two things you can try before you need to think about opening the case.
1) Switch and disconnect the unit off, then hold the eject button in whilst turning it back on....do not release the eject button until it responds.
2) If the above fails to work, then look for a tiny pinhole somewhere near the dvd opening flap...you can push a fine nail or pin into this hole on some machines...this will over ride the door mechanism and help you gain access...if both ideas fail...its time to disconnect from the mains and take the outer cowling off the machune to see if the disc has jammed or if the rails are off alignment...do not force anything...do not connect to the mains whilst the cover is off.good luck.

Dell cd drive door won't open

CD/DVD Drive Tray problems
There are two ways to open the CD/DVD drive door if the button just below the drive tray does not work.
Go to My Computer and right click on the drive and click on Eject.
If this does not work then you can manually open the CD/DVD drive tray by -
Straighten a paper clip and gently insert it into a tiny hole below the drive tray next to the Eject button. Push the paper clip gently until the drive tray pops out, then pull the tray until it is fully out, then you can remove the CD/DVD disc.
If you still having problem opening with the Eject button, then the CD/DVD drive is faulty and needs replacing.

CD DOOR WON'T OPEN

Just below the CD/DVD tray there is a tiny hole. Insert a straighten paper clip in this hole and gently push the paper clip until the CD/DVD tray pops out. You can now pull the tray out until it is in the fully opened position to remove the disc.
Try pushing the eject button to see if the tray closes, then push the eject button to see if the tray opens.
If this foes not work then the CD/DVD drive is faulty and it needs to be replaced.

I cannot open the DVD drawer on my Philips DVDR3480 DVD RECORDER – it just won’t open? The screen display just keeps saying ‘Error’. Any help is appreciated.

I have two of these dvd recorders and both have the exact same problem where the drive won't open. It opens fine when there is a disc in the tray. So I just unscrewed the cover, press the white part which would be over the center of the disc as it's trying to open, it should then open. Then just make sure there is always disc left in the tray.
