The recording head, which is to the right of the reading wheel needs cleaning. it's pointless doing it your self you may destroy your machine, pay a proffesional a couple off dollars to remove the 4 screws and clean the head properly.

Why GE TV plays color DVD/VCR tapes in black and white

Some inputs on tvs won't process the color signal. Try one of the other inputs. Mine does the same. If u have already used the working ones on something else, U will need a switch to select one or the other available at Radio Shack if u can find one.

Black and white on my tapes

Is the vcr sitting directly on top of, or underneath the TV? If so, this could be causing magnetic/static interference, and that's not good. It's good practice not to have anything that uses tape near speakers or TV's. Hope this helps.

Another possibility is the signal you are recording is coming from a cable box/digital cable box/satellite cable box. Try recording using the RCA cable inputs and outputs, instead of 75 Ohm cable, if applicable.

I can only record and play back in black and white.

siri,

for the black and white screen output of your DVD and VCR.

1) for DVD player: using remote control locate "setup" button and click.a dialogue box should appear indicating " audio setup" video setup" etc.....
2) select and scroll to "video setup". in video setup there should be an option to choose "AUTO" "PAL" or "NTSC"
3) choose "auto" then check if any change in screen color.

for VCR, locate a switch or button indicating "PAL" "Auto""PAL SECAM" "NTSC". same with the dvd choose and select "auto"

note: if you still have the manual for both VCR and DVD check the instruction with regards to video color setting.

cheers,
mark

VCR won't record

Check to make sure the cables on the VCR are hooked up correctly. If the in and out are reversed, this might cause your problem. Hopefully it's as simple as that. if not leave a comment and I'll get back to you.

Recording problem on Sony SLV-R1000

The deck needs a good cleaning. Try using a brand new tape and run it on playback for 20 min or so. You could try using a cleaning tape, but many of them are abrasive. If this doesn't work, you need a deck re-alignment which will cost more than your set is worth.
