To turn off the demo you need to press the src button to put it in standby mode. Then press the menu button as if to change the settings and use the joystick to scroll right until you see demo, then turn it to off....
Do as above to allow you to enter AUX mode this will let you plug in your MP3 player to the input on the face and hear music through it ;)
hope this helps you

This recently happened to my Sony, maybe it will help u
If this cd player has a removal fascia then try..
Carefully inspect the the electrical contacts on the fasica and the cd player. If it has got dirt on them then CAREFULLY CAREFULLY clean with cotton swab dabbed in cleaning Alcohol.

I had the same issue and was about to give up.
cleaning, key combos and such didn't work out.
Solved the dirty way, as described some comments above:
"Just took the faceplate from the "push-menu" button and hit it against
a hard surface [not too hard but not too soft hits] and thats it, it
worked again."
ah, the good manners!

I installed this new out of the box 5 years ago, into a vehicle that has always been a spare. I have never been able to get the unit out of demo mode. No combination of buttons puts the unit into a menu as described in the manual (ppg 23-25). And the demo cancel instructions on page 4 simply do not work. I've even done a hard reset to go back to factory specs, no change in symptoms.
