SOURCE: evaporator coil iceing
if you can put the frig. in defrost this will tell the sensor to turn on and you will see the heater melting the ice,if you can't put it in defrost and the sensor still has ice on it,simply put it in your hand,as your hand warms up you should feel the sensor pop, this pop tells the heater to turn off,if no pop the sensor is bad,if no ice on the sensor put it in a glass of ice, chill it down and do the same hand test, you can also use an omhs meter to check it,all the sensor does is open and close, let me know what you find-mike

SOURCE: heater works defroster does not
It sounds as though you're having problems with your controls...if it were the ducts...you'd get some kind of a air current..even a faint one
hope this helps

It is possible you have a defective fan motor in the condenser area or evaporator area. Sometimes when they become defective they will run for a while and just warm up and stop while the compressor continues to run. I learned that one on four costly returns to the home. The cost was to me not the customer. Thanks, Sea Breeze
