Some thermostats need calibration. Use an oven thermometer or candy thermometer without plastic, to check the temperature for calibrating. Some thermostats, pull off the dial and a small screw should be exposed, turn a eight turn or so to adjust the oven temperature to the dial.

Generally adjustment would not be required. When first lit the flame would be at maximum power but reduce as the oven heats up and the thermostat takes control.
Your description indicates the thermostat is not taking control - perhaps it wasn't installed correctly or it simply isn't working.
You will need to look and see if the igniter is glowing a bright red. If it is weak, the oven will not light. Here is the igniter if you need to order it. Also check and make sure your getting 3.2-3.6 volts AC to the valve.

1. Add baking soda to a cool oven.
Sprinkle a thick layer of baking soda onto the bottom of the oven. Make sure the oven is completely cool before you attempt to do this.
2. Spray the baking soda with water.
Using a spray bottle, spray the baking soda down until it is damp, not saturated. The water and baking soda together will help break down the food particles.
3. Continue spraying baking soda as it dries out.
Every few hours spray the baking soda down again to keep it moist. Continue this process over several hours, spraying water as the baking soda begins to dry out.
4. Scrape out the baking soda.
Scrape the baking soda out of the oven. Food residue will be scraped out with the baking soda.
5. Rinse the bottom of the oven out thoroughly.
Yes, you'll still have to rinse out the oven, but next time you cook your food won't have an added taste of oven cleaner.
If I had the rest of your model number I may find what Tappan now Fridgedaire Electrolux reccomends, but this is the least toxic. Have a great day..
I have the digital timer oven and also cannot find the manual. You have to set the bake time timer, I think for 3 hours. Then you set the oven knob on clean and turn on the temp knob, probably to full but I don't think it matters. When you engage the lock, the clean light should come on/ When the oven reaches high temp, the lock light will also be on.
