SOURCE: dishwasher and salt

run a few times with nothing in the machine on full washes it may be that the salt you are using is not suitable for that machine also check that you have the machine plumbed into the hot water outlet.

Thanks J

SOURCE: I just cleaned out the salt chamber of my Culligan

You should put about a 5 gallon bucket of water in first. 6 inches of water is not enough to produce the brine solution needed to fully recharge your culligan. You don't need to take out the salt at this point, just add more water into the top of the salt, wait 3 hours and manual recharge your unit.

Our water is soft and does not require salt. how do we stop the red light

I think it might depend on the model # and it should be in your manual.

Example for a G858 SCVI plus instructions (without pictures) are;

Bypassing the salt indicator

If your water is soft (below 8 gr/gal) the
salt reservoir should not be filled with
salt. The indicator will remain lit and
should be disregarded or bypassed.

Remove the salt reservoir cap.

Looking into the salt reservoir, you will
see the top of the float chamber on the
right hand side, a.

Using a screwdriver, carefully pivot
the float chamber towards the center
of the reservoir.

Using needle nose pliers, pull the
cap, b, off of the float chamber, and
remove the float, c.

Replace the float chamber cap, push
the chamber back into its upright position,
and replace the salt reservoir cap.
The "Salt" indicator should no longer be
lit.

Salt light stays on all the time -salt is full

Hi

Have a look at the solution I posted 4 years ago :-

It looks as though the system has lost the link to my reply, so here it is :-
My salt light won't stop flashing even though its full of salt. Its a Hotpoint FDW60. Ive tried turning off and an ...
I think I have the answer.

On Yahoo Answers Blue Rizla Girl put up the idea that the sensor is some form of hydrometer. (i.e. floats in salty water sinks if not salty enough)

Based on this thought I postulated that the sensor is some form of hydrometer float in a tube with perhaps an optical sensor.

If this is correct why is it not working?

Is it because the float is stuck at the bottom of the tube, perhaps by some food debris? If so how can we fix it?

This is what I did on my Hotpoint FWD60:-

I took the salt filler cap off. There was no salt in the reservoir as it has been a problem for months, and I was only refilling it when dishes were not coming clean.

I poured 2 litres of hot water into the salt reservoir.

I then put the empty machine on the intensive 65 degree wash, half load and with the reservoir cap still OFF.

When finished I filled up with salt and HEY PRESTO the salt light is OFF!!!!

Just hope it stays that way until the reservoir really needs refilling.

While I was down on my hands and knees I took the opportunity to clean the filters in the sump. They do get full of bits!

I also flushed the sump by dashing a couple of cups of hot water into it and then bailing it out with a small yoghurt pot. I repeated this until the water in the yoghurt pot and the sump no longer had any signs of bits in them. (Dashing = vigorously pour)

I was amazed at how many bits I got out, especially considering I had given the machine a good clean in the past 6 weeks.

I even got part of a paper label!

So there we have it, try it out and report back.

Stupid question but how do you refill the pepper grinder of the Octo Combo? I don't consider this an appliance since it doesn't use electricity or batteries but couldn't figure out another category for...

Hi, from the photos I see on the web, it looks like you hold the salt chamber and then unscrew the nut on the top of the unit. I would say that you need to then pour out the salt into a small container, and then grasp the bottom (pepper chamber) and pull up on the salt chamber to separate it from the bottom chamber. Fill the pepper chamber and then replace the salt chamber and fill with salt, replace salt cover and then replace nut. I hope this helps.

My washer dryer just fills and emptys over and over

either drain hose is lower than the level of the water so it syphons out the hose or electronics are faulty.

Door locked and takes water will not empty or spin

turn the machine off and check under the lid.
the pressure switch hose may have fallen off. its a clear tube that fits onto a nozzle on the underside of a plastic circular unit about 40mm diameter on the left hand side. this should shut the water off when filled to correct level.
to get the water out in any case put the drain hose end lower than the water level into a basin to syphon it out. lifting the hose above water level will stop it till you empty basin.

Bosch classixx washing machine softner dispenser fills with water will not empty

I have had this problem and found that it is due to not enough water getting into the softener chamber. THere are holes above the drawer in the inside that can sometimes get clogged up with muck, if you clean these out the water will flow and the syphon effect will work correctly.
