Plug off the wall, check your shock-absorbers after opening up the rear. They should be firmly fixed, no bolts loose of come off. While you are behind re-check all springs. Never use too small a load. There could be a "half load" switch also.

Drum is loose during Spin and Rinse cycle and banging against side of washer

If it is under warranty, call Whirlpool at 1-866-698-2538. If it is out of warranty, try running the washer with no clothes in it in spin cycle. If it runs fine empty, it may be that when you had clothes in it they were not balanced evenly in the tub. If it runs off balance when empty, then a spring may have broken or come off. Contact an appliance repairman.

I have a Kenmore washing machine model # 11020854990 which recently had a loud banging and knocking sounds during the final spin cycle. Now I notice the drum seems to have dropped down about an inch plus...

Could be a loose basket nut, or on the bottom tub support there are a few springs that help locate the tub. One of the springs could have come off or broke.

Washer bangs loudly in middle of spin cycle

Hello,

Make sure the back spring is still on the back of the tub. That tends to come off sometimes. Check all the other springs while you're down there too. You can balance the unit if you tilt the back side of the washer and then set it back down. it has auto leveling feet. What's happening is once the water is all drained out, the unit will enter the final spin cycle and spin very fast putting the unit off balance so the tub bounces around.

Good luck, let me know if this helped.
