It should turn on automatically. Is the battery live? Did you already pair it with the iPad?
How to connect the Bluetooth?
* Open the cover, the keyboard will be turned on automatically.
* Turn on the Bluetooth of your iPad Pro 10.5 inch 2017 Released.
* Click "fn" + "C" keys to open the Bluetooth of the keyboard.
* Go to your iPad bluetooth setting, click on bluetooth and look for "Bluetooth 4.0 Keyboard" in the searching page. Just select it.(Note: compare with bluetooth 3.0 keyboard, the bluetooth 4.0 version is more fast and more power saving, it can show the battery power on your iPad).

When I set up the Text to Speech component in the System Preferences I had chosen Shift S as the key to activate this. I had to turn that off so that my Shift S would work again in a text document.

I have been trying to fix this problem for days and finally figured it out just now.
I have a unibody 17" macbook pro connected to a 30" monitor. I use the Bluetooth apple keyboard and might mouse. Everything was working fine until I moved my laptop to a new area on my desk, and repositioned it sideways using a stand sold at the Apple store. That's what caused it.
So for those having problems with their blue tooth mouse or keyboard with the 17" macbook pro, try repositioning your laptop to see if that helps. It immediately fixed it for me.

Under system preferences go to keyboard and mouse, click on set up new deviceselect the type of device you are wanting to setup and follow the instructions. If you have used the keyboard or mouse on another computer it could be that they are paired to that computer to unpair them you can use the instructions shown on the following webpage
