That is likely a job for an experienced repair technician, not for DIY.

SOURCE: nikon f3 hp light meter wont work

I'm interested in this as well. Just installed fresh batteries, light meter says 1/80 in all shutter settings faster than 1/60 (otherwise it shows the correct setting). Since 1/80 is the flash sync speed, it may be that the camera thinks there's a flash attached. But it is not...
Strange thing is that one time (I tried a couple of times today) the light meter worked correctly; it showed other timings and they changed as I turned the aperture ring...

How to fix camera nikon f3 shut sticky

First, I'm not a Nikon tech.
* Wow, old school. I had 3 nikkormats even the 1/2 frame one. Well I still got them but I use my phablet now.
* Sticky shutter usually means the camera needs cleaning and probably a spring replacement. The shutter is exposed every time the lens is taken off or the back is opened.
* Lots of stuff and dirt gets into the body. I've tried cleaning fluids but that's not a good idea if your using the wrong fluid or spray it in the wrong place.
* Here is a Forum that may address the issue; https://www.flickr.com/groups/18787520@N00/discuss/72157647706281597/
* You should take it to a camera shop (older one) to have it checked, cleaned, and lubricated.

Nikon f3 shutter release and light meter

there are a number of things that could be causing this and none of them are good. The impact could have torn the main circuit. If it hit on the rewind side there is an expensive glass disk (glass is used for temperature stability) called a FRE that has contacts on it for the ASA and aperture information to be sent to the main circuit. This is easily broken. You may also have damaged the shutter speed unit or its flex.

Shutter release button on my F3 is stuck (locked) and shutter speed is locked at 1/60. Works fine when camera is attached to a motor drive, but not otherwise.

Hi,
When the batteries in an F3 die, though the film can still be advanced, the photographer is limited to a single mechanical shutter speed of approximately 1/60 second. It is tripped by a secondary fully mechanical shutter release. Works fine when camera is attached to a motor drive because it uses the drivers power...Pls replace the batteries as one of the following is okay.....
  • Battery: Choice of one 3V lithium battery CR-1/3N type,,
  • two 1.55V silver-oxide batteries SR-44 type, or
  • two 1.5V alkaline batteries LR-44 type
Hope this helps!
Take care and please

I set this "Nikon 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor Lens" or tried to set it to F2.8 in full manual mode. the F-Stop wandered from F2.8 to F3 / F4.5 depending on where i pointed the lens. I...

You have described Aperture priority mode: you set the f/stop and the shutter speed changes to make the exposure correct.

Full manual mode requires you to set both the shutter speed and the f/stop. You are seeing the recommended f/stop for the shutter speed you have selected.

Nikon F3 w/MD4 motor drive...Not working!

Check to see if the manual shutter release (the one that is to the left of the lens when you look at the camera head on) is not cocked and ready. It should have its lever resting against the lens collar. Since this is the manual release of 1/80 second, this can sometimes be the cause of the problem. Also, make sure the shutter speed dial is set to something other than the 80 speed.

Since you can get a reading on the light meter, its likely not a power issue, plus the F3 is capabale of pulling power either from the drive or from the battery compartment.

Sometimes the electronic F3 shutter button can seize due to lack of exercise. The curtains won't need placing unless they are worn, but the switch may need replacing.
