Olympus sz10 lens shutter won’t stay open when switched on moves freely manually but won’t stay open to take photos

Love it, I wish everybody did this thorough of a job when posting a problem! Is the camera out of warranty? If not call up Canon for a warranty repair.

I agree that it could be a software problem, try and see what you can do yourself with what you can find online and also reset the camera to the default settings as well. This gives us a baseline from which to work.

If you can't find a solution with software, then it's time to try hardware. Always remove the battery before you open your camera! You can start by taking the camera apart and re-seating the flex cable for the lens and CCD, it may or may not do anything. Don't turn on the camera without the body on, you don't need to put the screws back in through, just put the body back on first. If this doesn't work then it's time to try a new lens.

You can look for a defective camera online and see if you can make one from the two, or you can find somebody that sells parts and does repairs for a decent price.

Don't bother trying to send the camera to Canon if it is out or warranty (though you can call them and verify what I'm about to say) because they will want $150+ to do the repair for you. Parts are not cheap to buy from them.

If the film advance lever is "flopping" back and forth, the problem is most likely a jammed advance mechanism inside. The shutter is cocked *mechanically* and released the same way--no battery power is needed. One old trick you could try to release things is to push the rewind button on the bottom of the camera.*sometimes* it will free up the mechanism enough to unjam.

Sounds like it has been dropped and is off track/set .As long as it wasn't broke electronic tech could fix it. Dont spend much tho cause they are around 75 bucks online now.

Hi.

This error indicate that focusing ring got stuck or jammed. What you can try to do is spray some compressed AIR into the lens to try to free up any sand or dust that may have worked its way in. If that doesn't help, you can gently bump the camera to try to free the focusing ring.

or.......
You can try to turn camera ON at the table (facing it to the ceiling), don't put camera down face to the floor when opening.
Else your camera need to be disassembled to get at the focusing ring at Service Center.

I could be that your lens isn't focusing. If the Auto focus can't find something to focus on the shutter won't fire. If you are shooting in low light sometimes it has trouble try shooting something that is well lit. also your auto focus point may be somewhere other than the center. there is a button on the top of your camera that looks like this [ ][ ] [ ] [ ]
More or less that will switch where your focus point is. If you look in the view finder and see a red dot when you push on the shutter button that is your focus point. push the above button until the red dot is in the centre. that may fix your problem.
