so with the door over the blower compartment it wont run? Does it blow the flames out?

Open the two side panels. The filter is at the bottom held down with a wire spring. Release the spring and the filter can be removed.

cannot vent horizontally, need to install b-vent and go up

You must first remove the blower compartment panel. The filter should be in there. However, since this unit is in a crawl space you may have a return air filter grill. Look at your return grill. Does it have a filter? If not does it have latches so that you can open it? If so measure the opening and install a new filter there. I hope this helps. Please don't forget to give me a Fixya rating.
