The water line shut is usually behind the unit.Pull it out from wall. Just turn clockwise to shut the water off. Depending on your model you can turn the ice maker off by letting up the handle in the ice tray. That shuts it off from making ice.Newer models have a button on door that reads ice off.But if it's leaking water.Shut water off and left handle up or ice off at door. That way it's not trying to make ice.

SOURCE: Ice maker not dumping ice

Make sure the freezer is at least 17 degrees or colder (colder is better). If you have a square cover on the end of the ice maker see if you can pull it off and press on the gear face (don't turn just press). That may clean the electrical contact springs and get it working again. Basically if ya got water, 17 degrees or colder you will get ice. Other than that the ice maker motor module is likely bad (broken gear, etc.). Pretty common.

SOURCE: Ice and water on bottom of freezer

sjlobo, sounds like your defrost drain pan is frozen over or has some gunk in it. When the unit goes into defrost the water is running onto the freezer floor and out the front. Remove the lower bin and check the drain hole. You may have to remove the freezer back panel. If you can, just use some very hot water and some sort of baster to unfreeze the drain. Check this first, Catriver..post back.

SOURCE: water leaks from ice maker in ice tray.

When the ice maker calls for water it'll be filling for about 7 seconds if is more the ice maker inside control board is bad , but if there's water in the ice maker all the timeeven after or before it calls for water it means that the water valve (solenoid) that supplies water to the ice maker is leaking and you have to replace it.

SOURCE: water leaking to bottom of freezer

ok you have a blocked freezer drain. The best thing to use to clear this is 'curtain wire (the plastic coated wire you use to hold up net curtains). Ok you need to find the drain hole in the "small tray on the back wall inside that fills and freezes and then the water is overflowing at this point to the bottom of freezer" you want to gentley feed the curtain wire down the hole untill the water drains down there. If you can't get the wire down you may need to turn the unit off to defrost as it could be frozen solid with ice. cheers

My maytag frig with the freezer on the bottom has suddenly stopped making ice. There is nothing blocking the arm in the ice maker and I can hear it making the sounds it makes when it makes ice but no water...

Good day,
Just follow this step by step proceedure. It'll get you there.

First step is to take a small paper cup of water and fill the cavity until it is near full. With the ice maker turned on, close freezer door and wait 3 hours to see if it harvests. If not, the ice maker is bad, and must be replaced. If the cubes harvest then.......
Three possibilities.
1. The water supply from the house is not delivering water to the water valve. Shut off the house at the meter, disconnect the line going to the water valve, and with the line pointed into a bucket, have someone turn the valve back on for a 15 second count. The water should come out smartly. If not, the line and it's fittings will have to be replaced.
2. The fill tube from the back of the machine that feeds water into the back of the ice maker is frozen up. You will have to remove the ice maker to visually inspect that tube. If blocked, it needs to be defrosted, but use caution. Too much heat too fast will start to melt plastic and vinyl parts you don't want melted.
If this is the case, then once cleaned out, you will have to change the water valve located in the back bottom rear of the machine because it is leaking during the off cycle.
3. If everything checks O.K. up to this point, you will have to purchase and install a new water valve, and install it.
P.S. Under very rare occasions the electric circuity in the ice maker will fail to send a signal to the water valve. Although rare, it can happen, in which case the best option is to replace the ice maker and water valve.

Ice maker no longer making ice. A few weeks ago the water that was supposed to fill just the ice tray, didn't turn off, overflowed the ice tray and proceeded to fill the ice basket underneath. Since then...

Sounds like the water flowed enough to freeze the end of the fill tube shut. Best to prepare to replace the dual water control valve on the rear and near floor of refrigerator. If it was leaking and you should thaw the tube you need to turn the main supply of water off until replaced. Then thaw tube and replace the dual control valve. I will return with a part number providing your model number is correct, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Ice maker leaks water

The GE Icemaker has a center bottom plunger that drives the ice cube discharge tray up and down. If that center plunger oring has failed the ice maker will leak in a drip drip drip fashion. If it only leaks once every cube cycle then it is overflowing when filling. This can be corrected 2 ways. One is to turn of the water supply line and disconnet the water line on the back of the unit. Place the hose into a large bowl of some kiind and then have someone open the valve until the flow is full and then reduce that flow about 50 percent. Remember how many turns it took to get that flow and shut off the water supply line. Then reconnect the line and turn on the water the number of turns you counted when shutting off the water. The PROPER way of setting the water flow timing is to frome the front cover of the ice maker and turn the adjustment screw in the DECREASE direction. My suspicions are that the plunger o-ring is leaking. It costs nearly as much to have the service call to replace the o-ring as it does to replace the ice maker. Your choice but I would replace the icemaker if the plunger is leaking. (mid-bottom point of ice maker) Just note that once a leak occurs in the plunger area if the plunger has corroded the new o-ring will wear out rapidly.

Brand new ice maker, water fill to tray will not shut off

The new ice maker should tell the dual water valve on rear of refrigerator to turn on if the tray makes a complete cycle. So the new ice maker is defective or the water valve on back is stuck open that leads up to the ice maker. Unplug the wires to the water control valve on back of the refrigerator and then turn the ice maker on. If the water continues to flow I recommend replacing the water valve. If the water stops coming to the ice maker I recommend returning the new ice maker. You only need to unplug the side of the water control valve leading to the ice make. I also recommend a pre-filter for the incoming water before the water control valve. Makes the water and ice better and keeps trash from damaging the water control valve. Let me know your results or if you need more assistance, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Ice maker making little ice/Leaking water on floor.

The ice trays bust be cleaned to prevent calcium build up. This will prevent the ice from froming in trays.
The overflow could be caused by the freezer not being level, or by the water fill timer not shutting of the incoming water. This will keep the water temp. too high to freeze the water. Also check the fill valve for sepage.

Ice maker water wont shut off continues to run even when tray is full

The ice maker water fill solenoid may be leaking by and needs to be replaced. If you disconnect the water line from the solenoid and you see it continues to flow water then that valve is not seating properly. Another slight possiblility is the ice maker motor module gear is stuck in the fill position. See the attached link for a diagram. If the geared wheel just happens to get stopped in the "fill" position it will fill with full force water. If there is only a trickle of water then the soleinoid valve is the more likely source of the problem. http://www.partselect.com/Schematics/Maytag/AA56-20.gif http://www.partselect.com/Schematics/Maytag/AA56-16.gif
