Compter on and running but no LCD image

It goes thru the boot process. As soon as the Win 2000 picture goes out the computer keeps loading as I can hear the usual things going on but the LCD goes black. The standby light is not on..It is plugged into the AC adapter. I know the battery is almost dead but that should have nothing to do with it.. It was working fine until I tried to run it on the battery.. I know it will go into hibernation if the battery goes dead but I don't think that is it as only the power light is on. I tried the Fn button to no avail..

Have you connected to an external monitor, just for fun? Try that, don't run off the battery, in fact, take the battery out. Use only the ac adapter for power. Now boot pressing f1 repeatedly until you get into bios. Just let it remain in the bios screen for a few minutes, long enough to prove you don't have a hardware problem such a s the inverter going out, etc.
Then allow it to continue to boot to windows. If it appears on the external monitor (may need to hit Fn+F5 or F&, to utilize both monitors), but not the system monitor, it's possible you've got a bad piece of hardware such as an inverter going out, or even the backlight failing.
If there's no image on either monitors, but you hear the usual sounds of windows booting up completely, it gets tricky.
First think is to update to most recent bios.
Floow the directions from the Lenovo site for the T20. Use the floppy image; it's just easier.
Good luck.
Let us know how it's going.

Boot into Safe Mode by pressing F8 during boot and...
Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. In Startup tab, uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate.

My monitor shows image immediately when switched on but just as soon the image appears the screen of the monitor goes dark after that need to off/on the power switch three to four times before the image...

Please restart your computer and tap the F8 key as soon as you see something on the screen. You should get the advanced boot menu. Select Safe Mode from the list.

Let me know if you were able to boot to safe mode.

Computer boots up then shows windows 98 scrren

you may face either harddisk failure, a driver problem or virus infection:

tools: original win98-cd (or a bootable image

version of it), antivir-software on cd!

- please check whether it is possible to boot from win98-cd, with cd-rom support, not from harddisk.

(such option should be availabe after bios-load is over)

if not:

leave the setup process without fully installing
(press F3 button when asked for repair or install option)

in both cases :

type at the dos-prompt:

c:\win98/win

(command for changing to harddisk, windows-folder, booting windows from harddisk, but without loading all the drivers as usually)

win98 should come up in protected mode or give error messages.

- access cd-drive and execute vir-scan.
- delete and/or repair infected files
- turn down, attempt to reboot from hd
- if still impossible reboot from win98-cd,
run repair of installation and try once again
standard boot

problem solved? if not, take down error messages consult fixya again!
