Toshiba 42 inch flat screen tv makes popping sound while tv works great otherwise. Seems to start making the popping sound after it's been on for a bit.

if it is a flat screen tv, you cant fix it your self, but it sounds as if maybe you blew one of the PC boards inside, rake it to a reputable repair shop, ask what their charge is for diagnosis , then what it might cost if it is a bad board, all this might determine weather it is cheaper to fix it or replace it. I had a 40" Toshiba and both the boards blew out , It did not cost me as it was with in the first year of ownership.

Some components have failed inside the board. Kindly do not use the TV until serviced by a qualified technician.

The tuner card in your TV is not working I thinks. Anyway set the TV to its factory defaults. It will make all the setting to factory levels. If this also didn't helep you, repace the tuner card.
To restore the TV to its factory setting:
[1] Press Menu and open the SETUP menu.
[2] Highlight INSTALLATION and press ENTER. A new set of installation menu will appear.
[3] Open the SYSTEM STATUS menu. Hilight the SYSTEM INFORMATION, and press ENTER.
[4] Press [ => / [5] Enter your PIN code (or 0000 if no PIN code has been set).

Unfortunately, that board is the inverter board. And for this model the inverter board is only supplied with the the PDP panel. The panel is quite expensive, here's a link if needed:

The LCD screen itself often cost more then the tv set itself. If you have accidental insurance you might see if they cover this, otherwise this will make a nice lava lamp like art display for a bedroom wall.......
