How to do a factory hard reset on Furuno 1834

The user manual is easy to find but they post warnings if you try to open it up and state you should contact an authorized repair facility or the factory. I could not find one.

Press MENU key, select FACTORY in gray, press MENU 5 times while holding down CANCEL/HL OFF, press ENTER, select language, ENTER, select INSTALLATION.

By 'reset' I guess you want to clear the contents.

This is how you do.
Turn on while pressing [menu/escape].
You get installation menu.
Move down to 'memory clear' and press [right arrow]
Select 'yes' to clear.
Memory will be cleared when switched on next time.

This information is not in the GPS instructions.
To reset the GPS, you must click on the arrow UP and together on Power.
The display shows that the system is reset.
Then, the GPS is working properly

If you reset it and while in the Initial Settings" Menu, you press menu, it should take you to the transducer setup screen. These menus allow for "Transducer Type" to be changed to your exact transducer. See the "Installation Manual", which is different than the "Operators Manual". Section 3 page 9 and 10. You may have to enter your units of measure (Knots vs MPH, etc), and then it will allow you to choose the transducer type. Hope this helps. John Barry, 847-746-0100, technicalmarine.com.

On page 26 you will see the instructions for the password. Please note that the password is known only by the dealer, so you will have to get it from them. I could find no reference to a resetting of the password, and this appears to be a security precaution established by the manufacturer.
You will have to get the password from the dealer.

the rudder setup needs to be done. follow prompts, very common to be screwed up, read directions carefully and make sure that if it says steer hard starboard, it is hard starboard before you proceed! 847-746-0100

Press and hold the "MENU" button during power on. Release "MENU" after boat appears.
Go through the installation wizard. You must select the radar type, "B" is 1834.

You will have to get a software update and have someone reflash the unit or perform factory reset by holding down the alarm button when pressing the power button.
