We have a Delonghi Rialto, Model EAM 4500. We cannot find a manual to download for descaling instructions. Help!
Use 1/4 cup of vinegar and fill pot with cold water, run through machine
Delonghi EAM, ESAM, ECAM, Nespresso
Do not descale these machines using vinegar! The manual is quite clear on this. Do not use sulphamic acid based generic descalers either. Use only the Delonghi descaling solution.
General Descaling Instructions
Read the safety warnings on the descaler bottle. Warm up the machine. Place the descaling solution in the water tank. Place a large glass or stainless steel vessel under the hot water spout. Run the hot water spout for ten seconds. Wait five minutes. Run the hot water spout for ten seconds. Wait five minutes. Repeat this procedure until the water tank is empty.
Rinse out the water tank with clean water. Fill the tank and run hot water through the machine until the tank is empty. Do this once more.
It is important to set the water hardness in the menu to suit your local water supply. This controls how frequently the machine asks to be descaled. Delonghi can provide test strips to help determine what the hardness should be set to. Not descaling often enough or, just as bad, descaling too frequently will shorten the lifespan of the boilers and solenoids.
NIck, you are right. Do not use Vinegar. However please read the MSDS for Delonghi Descaler: It is Sulphamic acid based!!!
