It is sensing, and that you have something that needs a 'Delicate' setting, or a 'Woollens' setting. It provides water and very little agitation that might damage or stretch the clothes. Read the manual.
I hope this helps. I don't see a printed copy of the manual available from Sears Parts Direct. You can print it yourself or take the file to a print shop (Kinkos, UPS store) later.
Once the bolt is removed, it should be able to just pull up. It may be tough but grab it from the base and pull up with some force. Carefull not to hit your face once you free it up.
