SOURCE: Powered Or Unpowered Subwoofers For Onkyo TX-8511
Greg- Powered subs are better than non-powered subs (also known as passive subs), anyway I see the TX-8511 has no sub pre-out on the back panel, so you need to decide what sub you will use and run from the receivers left and right speakers output into a subwoofers speaker in from speakers then back out to speakers, look at the back of a subwoofer and you will see like 4 sets of speaker hookups 2 in and 2 out, what this does is takes the low end or bass and drops the signal to the subwoofer then takes the mids and highs out to your left and right speakers, unless your regular left and right stereo speakers have large woofers a sub is the way to go.
SOURCE: Connect the receiver to a Samsung LN32A450 TV?
I have a model LN32A330 which is probably has connections similar to yours. I'm not home right now to check whether it has a digital output, but I know for sure it has an analog audio output available. You can run that output to an available auxiliary or a/v source input on the receiver and that will work for you. That's how I have mine connected. If the set has a digital output and the receiver offers digital inputs, that's another connection possibility. The digital output on some brands of TV only works in conjunction with the tuner, and may not always have output. The analog method is guaranteed to work.
If this solution has helped get you on the way, please take a moment to give it a fixya rating. Thanks for asking here!
SOURCE: I have an Onkyo TX-8511
You have two devices that won't power on. Doesn't that suggest a source power problem? Did they ever or never work where you are now or anywhere else? Or did you just come back from overseas and forget to set them up for U.S. power?
And you're not daisy-chaining the two units together, are you? That's a no-no. There's a wattage limit to what can be connected to the convenience outlets. Power amps are not usually supported.
Try isolating the two units and shoot each bug separately. Plug them in somewhere else. Disconnect speakers and try again.
C'mon back with the results.
SOURCE: using my onkyo tx-8511 with my sonos
Yes this can be done. Both the zp80 zp90 has analog outs that can run to and input (CD input) on your receiver. You can also use the optical out and keep the signal 100% digital all the way up to the receiver. The zone players can also be programmed to be line level out (fixed audio) or variable audio out. If you pick fixed then the receiver volume control must be used. If you use variable out then you will want to set the volume on your receiver at a level you never want to exceed then use the Sonos to control the volume.
Good Luck
