The ink needs to be replaced on a Sharp EL-1801C calculator? How do I insert an ink cartridge? Do I need to replace the ink roller.

INK ROLLER REPLACEMENT

If printing is blurry even when the ink roller is in the proper
position, replace the roller.
Ink roller: Type EA-732R

WARNING
APPLYING INK TO WORN INK ROLLER OR USE OF
UNAPPROVED INK ROLLER MAY CAUSE SERIOUS
DAMAGE TO PRINTER.

1) Turn the power off.
2) Remove the printer cover. (Fig. 1)
3) Remove the ink roller by turning it counterclockwise and
pulling it upward. (Fig. 2)
4) Install the new ink roller and press it in the correct position.
Make sure that the ink roller is securely in place. (Fig. 3)
5) Put back the printer cover.

Not familiar with your model but others I have serviced used an ink-impregnated roller rather than a ribbon; you may be looking for the wrong object. They were generally rolling directly on numeral roller.

You need the IR40T Ink Roller

You have a IR 40T replacement cartridge instead of a 40T
These are sold under the NR42-2 number as replacements for the Sharp 1801P but they do not fit. IF you look closely at the Sharp Models it lists on the package, it will say Sharp EL-1801V. I have not found a working replacement yet.
