There is a thermal resistor on the inside of the motor which goes out with age. It is not expensive, a dollar or two, but it can be tricky to replace. I cannot tell you what size the resistor is since I have not opened the motor yet.

mcdevito75 here, You may be able to match up the factory switch with a switch from a large hardware store, home depot, etc. or you could try to contact your fans maker plus.com nline.

The switch has numbers on it. Mark the wires. Just connect the new switch the same way.

you have 3 control wires (the 3 speeds) and a common wire. the common wire will go directly from the fan motor to the power source/cord and the other 3 leads will run through the switch. you could even use a standard dimmer-style lighting rheostat and connect it to the common and "high" fan speed wire and have infinitely variable fan speeds. hope that helps.

I have seen a number of oscillating fans where the push-pull knob just pulls off. It will require a serious pulling effort - straight up. Do Not use any tools. You may have to have a helper hold the fan while you pull the knob.

After the knob comes off, push the shaft back down with your finger to allow it to clear the housing.

Steve, Your fan model is HV-18-WR; I have 2 with the same problem. I can't find a source for DYE-3606 switches either.
