There is a pusher/spring assembly at the rear of the stapler, that is embossed with "PUSH&UP". This pusher/spring assembly can become totally separate/detached from the stapler and then go missing (behind a cabinet, on the floor, in the trash, etc.) Without this pusher/spring assembly, you can stick a new stack of staples in, but they won't automatically advance. You need to look around and find the missing pusher/spring assembly.

To fix a staple jam in a stapler, you should first remove the jammed staples and check for any obstruction in the stapler that could be causing the jam. If the obstruction is still present, you will need to disassemble the stapler to remove it. On the right side of the machine are two levers, the one towards the rear is a release button. It releases the "magazine" that holds the staples. Turn it and the magazine will slide out, then put your standard staples in and close. It took a little manipulation of the lever before it released on mine, and I expected the magazine to pop out as if spring loaded and it did not. Try gently pulling on the magazine whiole turining the lever, and it should work!
