Are there any safety standards related automatic lighting switches?

Hello, Frank -

There are safety standards for automatic lighting switches. I used to work as a librarian for the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and many of the questions we received from association members had to do with all sorts of standards for manufacturing, building, etc.

Your question has landed in the Fixya.com category for Cars & Trucks.

Is your question in reference to a standard or standards for the lights in a car or truck which switch on when a door is opened and switch off when all doors are closed?

If you can explain why you asked your question - are you repairing automatic lighting for a car or truck, for example - it will help in directing you to the right standard/s information.

To begin with, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is one source for standards of all kinds:
https://webstore.ansi.org/default.aspx

The Institute of Electrical and Electroncs Engineers (IEEE) Standards Association is another source:
http://standards.ieee.org/

I suggest for good one-on-one help with your question, whereby you can have a conversation with someone who can direct you to the information you seek, you locate and visit your local public library and pose your question/s to one of the reference/infomation librarians. The library may not hold all the technical information you may seek, but a librarian can find sources online and also find materials which can be borrowed for you from another library. If you reside in an area where there is a very small public library, one of the librarians at your local public library can direct you to a larger public library which you can call or plan on visiting.

Best wishes.

How do I disconnect battery

Get a Chiltons/Haynes repair manual for your year/make/model. These are excellent reference books for repair/maintenance of your vehicle and are written for the average bloke. They explain procedures in text and also have pictures. And they list needed tools for given procedure.
Or, you could always try YouTube.

I have a 2004 Buick rendezvous with what looks like a unique problem. The key fob and the door buttons will unlock only the drivers door but they both lock all doors. Any ideas?

Hi Anthony:
These vehicles have a nasty device called a Body Control Module BCM that thinks it is smarter than humans, so it reminds us by failing to do what is logical, including when it ceases to work properly.
On our Buick I accepted that it was beyond my abilities and took it to the dealer to have repaired.
Some things, even when explained, are too complicated for my old mind to try to repair.
Best of luck.

I have a 2004 nissan maxima that has a water coolant gasket leak. I'm trying to fix it myself but I don't see any threads explaining how.I really need help

Which gasket is it you are talking about ... a cylinder head gasket or a water pump gasket?

A cylinder head gasket replacement isn't straightfoward or cheap to do and requires a lot of technical ability and tools... In the UK a cylinder head gasket replacement would cost about £1000 - probably the same in US dollars

If it is the cylinder head gasket, try a special additive in the coolant system. The images below are generic. You will find similar products in the USA:

For radiator/block sealant have a look for something like:

However, if you're determined to replace a gasket yourself, it's a workshop manual you need.

Engine code p0011

This DTC code is a result of a mechanical fault of the VCT unit or related components, so there is no need for electrical diagnosis.

Refer to vehicle specific repair manual to perform component tests for the VCT unit.

Notes: Dealer techs have advanced tools and the ability to follow detailed troubleshooting steps, including the ability to test components using a scan tool.

Why 2003 expedition lock stop working?

Without factory service manuals to learn the system &
items your having problems with, you can't do a thing

You have no where to start, you know nothing about the vehicle

Always need reference material before you approach any
vehicle.

Checking fuses & relays, doesn't explain your knowledge of
those items, or if you tested them at all

All those problems are on the body side of the vehicle

Thru about 2003 you may have a GEM Module that controls
body items & several relays
You need wiring diagrams to walk down the problems as you
do your testing

It is possible the PCM has all the functions, you can Google that
info.

I thing your beyond your ability without reference material &
experience to resolve, you need repair shop help

Clickn @ relays in glove box

I understand what your saying but have no answer

Without the wiring diagrams & the ability to use them,
you need the help of a repair shop

I would find out the relays that click,go to reference
material to find out the circuits they work on & how they
should work & from the wiring diagrams test my way to
a fix.

2007 Accent, code P0012, checked CVVT valve OK, wiring to and from PCM OK. Found cvvt oil filter dirty, replaced did not solve problem. I'm thinking the CVVT control gear is bad.

The main thing to check is to verify the operation of the VCT solenoid. You're looking for a sticking or stuck VCt solenoid valve caused by contamination. Refer to vehicle specific repair manual to perform component tests for the VCT unit. Notes: Dealer techs have advanced tools and the ability to follow detailed troubleshooting steps, including the ability to test components using a scan tool.
