Removal & Installation

1.6L Engine
A/C Compressor Belt

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Loosen the A/C compressor mounting bolts.
  3. Pivot the A/C compressor towards the engine in order to relieve the tension on the belt.
  4. Remove the A/C compressor drive belt from the pulleys.

To install:
  1. Properly route and install the A/C compressor drive belt on the A/C compressor, the power steering (if equipped), and the crankshaft pulleys.
  2. Adjust the A/C compressor drive belt to obtain 6-9 mm (0.24-0.35 in) deflection.
  3. Tighten the A/C compressor mounting bolts to 13-20 f t. lbs. (18-28 Nm).
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.

Alternator Belt
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the power steering pump and the A/C compressor drive belt.
  3. Loosen the generator mounting bolts.
  4. Pivot the generator towards the engine and remove the accessory drive belt.

To install:
  1. Properly route and install the generator drive belt on the pulleys.
  2. Adjust the alternator drive belt to obtain 6-8 mm (0.24-0.32 in) deflection for a used belt or 5-6 mm (0.20-0.24 in) deflection for a new belt.
  3. Tighten the generator mounting bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  4. Install the power steering and the A/C compressor drive belt.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.

Power Steering Pump Belt
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Loosen the power steering pump mounting bolts.
  3. Pivot the power steering pump towards the engine in order to relieve the tension on the belt.
  4. Remove the power steering pump drive belt from the pulleys.

To install:
  1. Properly route and install the power steering pump drive belt on the power steering pump and the crankshaft pulleys.
  2. Adjust the power steering pump drive belt to obtain 6-9 mm (0.24-0.35 in) deflection.
  3. Tighten the power steering pump mounting bolts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.

SOURCE: install belt on Amana top load washing machine

Use the correct sized belt!!

Loosen the Motor mounting Bolts. ( Do not take it off ) Now the motor assembly can be moved towards the opposite large pulley.

Replace the belt in this position and slide the motor to it's original position. You adjust it in such away so that, the belt is not too tight or loose!

SOURCE: Necchi Model 535 FA

Hi! The motor pulley may be worn and cant turn properly causing the motor to be forced so much. The result will be an instant overheating that results to belt burn too. You will need to replace the motor, pulley and the belt now to make it running. Hope this helps and have a good one!

HOW DO I REPLACE BELT IN MY Amana LWD70AW??

Hi. I am assuming you have the front cover off to be able to see the belt laying on the base. First thing is to make sue all bolts holding the motor assembly to inner frame are tight. Next, check your SPRINGS and their mounts...Rust and corrosion is main cause of failure. The belt goes around the water pump, transmission pully and inside of idler(tensioner) pully. Good luck! The Maytag washer doesn't spin and had a burning rubber smell. Motor operates, but the drum does not spin. Belts have slack, motor pulley show evidence of belt turning which caused the burning rubber...

You should have a tensioner pully (a small wheel on a piece of spring steel) that hold the belt tight.
If that spring steel is broken or weak, then you will have to take the broken one to your local appliance repair parts shop and obtain a new one.

That should keep the belt tight and keep the drum spinning.... -Jim

When it spin a burning rubber smell is very strong and the wash is not ready for the dryer because it is still very wet. My washer is Maytag model LA810 series 01 serial# 013122 LR Ihave changed the belt...

New washer? probably not, but you very well may need a new tensioner pully spring.

Either the new belt is the wrong size, or it is installed improperly, or the tensioner is not providing enough tension to keep the belt tight. Make sure the moving parts are oiled. Sticking parts can also prevent the tensioner from pulling properly.

2 Loosen the hold-down fastener for the idler or generator pulley.
3 Pry the idler or generator pulley inward to release the belt tension and remove the belt.
4 Match the old belt up for size with the new replacement belt.
5 Observe the belt routing diagram in the engine compartment.
6 Install the new belt over each of the drive pulleys. Often the manufacturer recommends a sequence for feeding the belt around the pulleys.
7 Pry out the idler or generator pulley to put tension on the belt.
8 Pry out the idler or generator pulley to put tension on the belt.
9 Install the belt squarely in the grooves of each pulley.
10 Before adjusting belt tension, check for proper pulley alignment. This is especially critical with serpentine belts. Measure the belt deflection in its longest span. If a belt tension gauge is available, use it and compare the tension to specifications.
”If a belt is too tight, wear to bearings for the water pump, alternator, and engine crankshaft can result.”
11 Pry the idler or generator pulley to adjust the belt to specifications.
12 Tighten the idler or generator pulley fastener.
13 Start the engine and check the belt for proper operation.

Not sure how to replace the belt in my MTD, Wards snowblower

Remove the housing with the machine off

The idler pulley is designed to push up against the outside of the belt between the drive and motor pulleys when disegaged the belt should look like a loop like a race track

engage the blade clutch and watch to see if it presses up against the drive pully and the motor pulley

their should be a spring attached to the idler arm and i believe the new belt is dragging a little

you should be able to move the belt with your hands ( it should slip freely) rod is engaged or it pulls the idler away

Either a spring causes tension when the rod is engaged or it pulls the idler away

Keep working with it until it is free you may have an adjustment on the spring tension or the linkage rod has an adjustment

I am sure you can do this without an diagram good luck

Need instructions on changing belt pic.too for Amana Lw3502w 10YRS OLD

Take off front of machine- 2 screws bottom sides. You need to take the bolts out of the motor brackets (4) and it would help if you drained all of the water out of the water pump so you can take the hoses off. Release the spring pressure on the idler pulley and unclip the motor plug on the side of the motor near the top. Now you should be able to pull the motor out and gain access to the three torx screws on the bottom of the pump. Make a note of how the pump sits on the bottom of the motor and how the belt is routed through the legs of the pump and around the pulleys. Reverse the procedure and reassemble. Don't forget to re-apply the spring pressure to the idler pulley. The motor drive pulley should be clean, shiny, and smooth. If not the belt won't slip like it should and will burn up when the washer spins. It has to slip untill all of the water is out of the tub before it spins up to full speed. Found this- and I'm gonna try it.

Putting belt on top load amana washer moder #unknown

There is a large pulley directly under the washer drum that runs the transmission. There is a small one connected to the motor shaft, and a third which is attached to a spring-arm and acts as a tensioner.

Pay attention to the direction the tensioner moves. The back of the belt should go against the inside of the tensioner when it is released.

The easiest way I've found to get the belt back on is to thread it around the small pulley, and tensioner, then start it on one side of the large pulley, and rotate the large pulley to allow the belt to thread onto it.

Hope this helps.

Belt Removal and Replacement

No.  The motor and pump assembly need to come off.
There is 4 1/2 inch bolts that hold this assembly to the main mechanism.  2 on top and 2 on bottom.  Work belt off bottom pulley on transmission and then remove these bolts.  Turn motor over and remove 3 torx screws holding pump to motor.  Install new belt then reinstall pump with 3 screws.  Reinstall assemblt to mech.  Pu top 2 screws in first then bottom 2.  Be sure belt goes on left side of black plastic idler pulley.  Work belt around transmission pulley.  You can press on opposite end of idler pulley arm to loosen belt tension.  Make sure belt is on all pulleys before testing.
