Unresponsive usb ports

Gateway 6020gz laptop: all 4 usb ports aren't responding--out of the blue. They never been overloaded, One usb port shows signal in the optical mouse when conected in, but the computer can't recognize the mouse. No warning signs in Device Manager--did disable/enable; reinstalled the CHipset; nothing works. I had only optical mouse and external keyborad, and printer connected (the latter--occasionally).

Unresponsive usb and sound

Did you try the system restore to go back to a date where you were before the updates? I have had this issue and that worked for me---those window updates can cause problems.

The updates can I believe be manually deleted or removed but I have always used the system restore to create a date and set it back to that time.

Several times each day my mouse on my laptop (Dell Lattitude E5510) becomes unresponsive. I can then use the touch pad to restore my control or the mouse works if I switch USB ports. It doesn't se

Some mouses stop responding if you do not use it for a few minutes. This is usually a battery saving feature. Usually all you got to do is use the scroll button to reactivate the mouse by scrolling up or down. This will bring the mouse back to life. When you change the ports you are actually doing the same thing (reactivating). Also check whether battery needs changing.

2 of 4 USB Ports Not Functioning

Most likely a motherboard problem, though you can try and re-do windows, best bet on getting it all to work is Turn off CPU, Unplug Power cable, And all usb devices, let it sit for about 20mins. Plug it all back in. Turn on the CPU! Though this might really get on your nerves having to do this multiple times, id get a new motherboard.

Usb port overload

difficult to diagnose...do not know of a "trick"...although one solution is to get a PCMCIA card (they are getting very inexpensive now) that has 2 USB ports...you can add a USB hub from one of them to again have 4 or more ports.
