SOURCE: Can't get the staples to go in. It's a sears

Pull out the part that loads the staples, turn the gun upside down, put the staples in the bottom of the gun and push the loader back in. It took me awhile to realize that you don't load them on the piece that pulls out of the gun.
Cheers.

or (googling for you)(

Squeeze the loading door on the back to open. Slide out the staple carriage to receive the staples.
load some.
Push the carriage into the gun and make sure it securely latches. There is a wire(rule) guide to let you know how many staples are left.
if carriage jams use less staples.

Swingline optima 40 how do you open and close the stapler?

Swingline heavy duty staplers provide the power to staple up to 120 pages of 20-lb. paper easily and consistently. The all-metal construction of these staplers makes them an indispensible office tool. However, the way to load staples into a Swingline heavy duty stapler differs from the method for loading most other manual staplers and can cause a little confusion.
Difficulty:Easy Instructions

    • 1 Remove the follow block at the back of the stapler by pushing the mechanism in, lifting the block up over the holding hooks and sliding it out from the stapler. The follow block is the spring-loaded mechanism that holds the staples in place within the stapler.
    • 2 Load the heavy-duty staples into the staple tray.
    • 3 Replace the follow block by inserting it back into the stapler and locking it into place over the holding hooks.

WHERE do I open it to refill it??

Located on the end opposite of where the staples come out, there is a spring loaded cap. Push it in toward the base of the stapler and slightly down to release the retaining hook. then let the spring release the pressure rod and pull it out. Connedted to the end of the rod you will see a plunger that is shaped like a short run of staples. Make a mental note of how and where this plunger slides into the base of the stapler. Place a run of staples into the stapler in the same manner that the plunger fits then replace the plunger into the same place following the run of staples. Compress the spring into the stapler and attach the hook as it was. Now you are ready to work.

NOTE: If you cannot compress the spring enough into the stapler you have inserted too many staples, just remove some of the run of staples and try again.
