Is the PTO disengaged? Some of them have a pto neutral switch which keeps the tractor stationary when engaged and others allow you to move while pto is engaged. Depending on what you have will determine what happens. Also check the trans fluid and clutch adjustment.

I took the shift assembly apart. The switches weren't set in right. Once I put them in the shifter lined up and it works fine

I would replace the high/low switch and the reverse switch. One time a replaced the high/low switch and the reverse switch quit on me 2 weeks later.
You can also get the Peg Perego Gator Shifter that upgrades the vehicle.
