I have put a multimeter across the switch/on-button and there is power when the switch is engaged - so, not plug, cable or switch..

Try connecting the wires going to the start button to each other, see if it starts then. You checked the door switch the same way? Thermal fuse or in line resistor?
SOURCE: tv overvoltage
Normaly there will be much more damage than the internal fuse. On this model, if I can remember correctly, there is a pig-tail fuse that is solder connected to the circuit board. When this fuse is blown, normaly there are serious problems in the power supply or some other areas of the set.
It would be best for you to take the set to a service center to have it properly checked and have an estimate. I have had your described situation before. Most of the time the set would be very expensive to service in this type of case.

Hi If
the dishwasher is not working with no lights or display then the most likely cause is
an open thermal fuse.It is located in the console and can be checked for continuity with a
meter or it can be bypassed if no meter is available. The thermal fuse will
have a black wire and a black/white wire on it. If you have no meter then with
the power turned off you can remove these two wires and join them together with
a small piece of insulated wire and see if you get any lights. One other
possibility is the wire connections at the dishwasher junction box behind the
kick plate. Sometimes the wire nuts get loose and a good connection is lost. Often
the main wiring connection from the house, at the dishwasher, burns and breaks
the connection. If that's the problem, the wires must be repaired/replaced as
necessary. If that's not the problem, check the wiring to the door switch, the
wiring between the door and the lower part of the dishwasher, and the wiring to
the timer. Repair any broken, burned, brittle, or defective wiring, using the
proper appliance-grade wire and connectors. Please
get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.
