First put new batterys in the mouse and key board. if you don't have a tester use a flashlight. pen light. push the remote pickup. light will blinknext push key board button and the mouse next. then try it and see if it works.
Nice post, but no problems stated.
no issues or bad symptoms stated.
why not try it first then ask.? if there is a problem.?
it is not a DELL keyboard, it's made by Logitech (top brand)
if they are old,???? both need a new battery or it will not work.
inside mouse, inside keyboard, wireless needs a good battery.
NO PC stated, DELL. just DELL. dell what? it has model.
NO OS stated, of the 100s possible.
if windows, say that and the version for 10x better answers.
is the PC on the internet (connected) if yes windows plug and play will load drivers to your alien keyboard/mouse.
but not if XP, I bet. i bet that fails hard.
XP can not use newer devices, on USB, do to its dead state.
Same is true of VISTA, (it too is dead for new things added)
this thing from year 2000?

Sounds like KVM has a bug. Maybe their website has a fix.

SOURCE: Problem with KVM switch and Vista
Your problem has nothing to do with the Operating System (Vista), it has something to do with the brand of your computer. I have similar problem before, I have Vista (Dell), but the time I connected another Vista (Sony Vaio), everything worked correctly.
This is what you need to do:
1. You have to make sure that you are using a standard USB keyboard and mouse.
2. Connect first the keyboard and mouse directly to the Vista computer to see if the USB ports of your computer are working properly.
3. You may power cycle the KVM switch by disconnecting it from the computers (including the keyboard and mouse) and leave it disconnected for 2 minutes.
4. Reconnect everything after two minutes and then reboot the computers.
5. Try using different USB keyboard if problem exist after power cycling the KVM switch.
