Flush valve drops before bowl completes flush

I recently replaced an old flush valve on my American Standard toilet which did not seal properly. Now, when I flush, the new valve drops before the tank drains, causing the toilet to stop flushing prematurely.

The flush valve is the one attached to the water supply. The large rubber valve at bottom centre is actually called the flapper valve. I just wanted to make sure it was the flush valve you replaced. You should also know that the tank is not supposed to empty (so the seals don't dry out) but of course you should be getting a complete flush.

Is the flapper weighted? if it is it will cause it to shut prematurely. one thing you can do is increase the water in the tank. you might have to buy a pvc cuppler to put on the over flow to allow it to fill up more. korky makes a nice flapper thats not weighted

I have a new American Standard Cadet 3 that was just installed. After flushing, the water fills into the bowl. However, after several minutes, the water in the bowl slowly drains away and is nearly gone....

Sorry for problem with new toilet.
You say water is leaking out of the bowl?

Toilets have 2 parts:
1) Tank: where water is stored for the flush and is sealed with a flapper.
2) Bowl: where water flushes down.

a) If tank is leaking water, then flapper is suspect. Replace flapper and see if that works.
Lift up flapper and run finger around rim to see if there is a rough spot that would indicate flush valve is defective, and needs replacement.
See typical flush valve

b) If bowl is leaking, that is very unusual and would indicate a crack in the porcelain.

If installer sold you the toilet, it is his responsibility to make good on product.

Replaced the seals because it was running. Water is still leaking from the tank somewhere so it keeps refilling....it's constantly leaking and refilling. how can I repair this.

You say you have replaced seals. I assume that you are refering to the flaper valve that controls dumping water from tank to bowl to flush. To make sure you have a good seal put a dozen or so drops of food coloring directly into tank when it's full and observe for a hour or so to see if water in bowl is discoloring. If it is then you are still leaking there. You can shut off water supply off or flush toilet and manually hold flush valve closed. Check to see if there are any rough spots on flapper seal that could stop flapper from sealing good. If you find rough spot then make sure the surface is dry and sand lightly with medium grit sandpaper.120 grit or finer.
One other thing to check is if your toilet has the plastic or rubber tube that goes from the flush valve into the overflow. Make sure that this tube does not set below water level in tank when it is full as this can create a suction or syphon,
Hope this helps you. Thanks

I have a Duravit Starck 2 toilet cistern which is approximately 5 yrs old, recently water from the cistern runs constantly into the bowl. I have renewed the flush value without any success. I would...

Did you replace the flush valve or the flapper?

There must either be a problem with the seal between the two surfaces of the flapper and flush valve or the flapper is being prevented by the flush system to returning to make a seal against the flush valve after the water completes draining during the flush cycle or more likely water is draining through the overflow tube.

Make sure the sealing surfaces are clean and not damaged.

Make sure the flapper is not being interfered with and is able to return to the closed position to make a complete seal against the flush valve.

Check adjustment of the water fill level to make sure the water is not filling above the water overflow. If the inlet valve does not shut-off when the level is adjusted to the proper level the water inlet valve may need replacing.

Champion4 leaks water through flush valve

You have replaced the flush valve completely? If so and the unit is still leaking, you may have a small crack in the tank or your just not getting the tank to bowl fittings tight enough. Also, they make two different thicknesses in the tank to bowl gasket. Make sure you are using the thicker of the two. You posted this under the American Std. thread, so if this is correct, give them a call. There could be a recall on this particular toilet due to a flaw.

Have to flush 2 or 3 times to empty toilet bowl

hello, this is a standard toilet you will need to inspect the flapper that is the rubber flap that holds the water up in the tank it works when you pull the lever it pulls the chain upward and lets the water flow if this flapper is old it may not stay up long enough for the water to flow. open the tank top and flush the toilet see if this flapper is staying up long enough and giving the tank enough time to empty if not change this rubber flapper its inexpensive part.
if this is not the reason then you need to adjust your water filler valve there should be a small screw on top of the pivoting float arm
if you have to adjust it for the water limit line inside the tank this will be the proper amount of water needed to flush once completely

also check that the chain lenth on the pull lever is not pulling the flapper down quicker than its supposed to,

try this let me know your results
hope it helps

American standard cadet 3 leaking around seal

get a new filler assembly. the water in the tank is heavy enough to close the seal completely. or the rubber seal is not making contact. thats' why the leak.
change the whole assemble ususally correct the problem.
adjuste the flow to about 1/4 to 1/3 under the over flow. if that still don't give you the pressure. you ca adjust the flow tube to 1/5 under the cover. that is the max.
