SOURCE: The Power Zoom appears to be locked at 80mm.

(I just cut-n-pasted the comment into the solution so this shows up as a solved problem in searches.)

"I've found the solution!
Just goes to show that sometimes it's worth simply calling the importer's service department, who told me in 30 seconds!!
Hold the zoom twist-ring and push, or click it up or down, depending on which way you are holding the lens.
So simple; I even accused him of not knowing what he was talking about.. and of course apologised profusely when it suddenly happened."

SOURCE: What cameras does this lens fit?

Vivitar made this lens with several different mounts, including mounts for Canon and Minolta cameras. Your best bet is to take the lens with you to a large camera store. The staff at the store may be able to simply identify which mount your lens has, or they can try the lens on different camera bodies to see which it fits.

SOURCE: Camera will not take picture with nikkor 105mm lens

Check if the lens is properly mounted. If still you get the error message, clean the electrical contacts between the lens and the camera using an eraser. Take care not to let any dust fall into the body. Attach the lens and try.

Hi. Is it possible to shoot photos using the digital zoom in manual mode?? canon 600d

No, EOS systems only use lens at a fix focal point like 50mm, or lens that have zooms built in, ie; 24mm to 105mm. You can zoom images in a image editor like Photoshop.

I have a new telephoto lens for my cannon rebel XT...how do I eliminate the vignetting?

Vignetting cannot be eliminated, though some programs like Photoshop can correct for it.
On some zoom lenses, you can reduce the amount of vignetting by shooting at a higher zoom. For example, if your lens is 24mm - 70mm, you will get more vignetting at 24mm than you would at 70mm.

My sigma 105 lens do not go to f2.8. it reaches only f3. tanx. macario sakay

If this is the Sigma 28-105mm f/2.8-4.0 as in the title, then the maximum aperture will vary with the focal length. It is probably only 2.8 when the focal length is zoomed to 28mm. It will be 4 at 105mm, and at focal lengths in between it will be in between.

Could I get the 18-105mm G ED DX VR AF-S lens instead of the regular one of 18-55m F3.5-5.6G .. for Nikon D5000, this is my first professional camera.

The D5000 is not a professional camera, it's very much a low-end introductory consumer grade digital SLR aimed at first timers. It's a fine camera, but wouldn't last more than a few days at best in professional use.

The camera usually comes bundled with a "kit" lens, such as the 18-55mm. Like the camera, it's a cheap and cheerful model which is really intended just to get you started. It costs very little to make, and like the camera body it's not designed with longevity, servicing or repairs in mind.

But to answer your question, yes, you can buy the D5000 as a body only option without the kit lens and then add on whichever lens you prefer at extra cost. The 18-105mm has a longer zoom range so has more flexibility than the 18-55mm, but once again it's very much a consumer grade lens. You don't get anything for nothing, so in return for the additional zoom range in a lens which is of a similar grade to the kit lens you get poorer image quality and really noticeable barrel distortion at the wide angle (18mm) setting and pronounced pin cushion distortion at anywhere above around 24mm (click here). You can't avoid these distortions entirely as all zooms are a compromise, but the kit lens suffers far less than the 18-105mm and also has a better all-round image quality (click here). Again, not to professional standards, but more than adequate for almost all amateur users. To be fair, although the 18-105mm appears to be based on an older design and is totally unacceptable for any professional use, it also is perfectly adequate for most amateurs and is relatively good value at the comparatively low price it can be purchased for, but the Nikkor AF-S 55-200mm f/4-5.6 G ED DX is by far a better lens altogether and just happens to have very low image distortion across the zoom range. If you can get one, it's the ideal companion to the kit lens. Best of all, it's actually cheaper than the one you propose getting (click here and here for comparison)and offers a much more useful telephoto range.

Focal length equivalents

If you are considering a Nikon such as the D60, D80, D90, etc.,the standard lens sold with the camera is 18-135mm. This is not the sameas an 18-135mm on a 35mm film camera. The equivalent 35mm film cameralens would be 27-202mm (you multiply by 1.5), about the same as what youhave now. If I were planning to do wildlife photography, I would buy a usedNikkor ED 70-300mm AF lens on E-bay. You should be able to get one for$200 or less (the new price is $550+). This lens is designed for a 35mmfilm camera and is the equivalent of a 105-450mm when used on a Nikon digital cameras. Additionally, it is compadable with the automatic features of the Nikon digital camera bodies. This would give you an excellent portrait lens at 105mm and extra long reachfor wildlife. The fast shutter speed and stabilization circuit on thedigital camera should make it usable in daylight without a tripod. I havethis lens on a Nikon film camera and it is a superior lens. At a 1/1000second or faster shutter speed, I get sharp hand held photos.
