In windows media player 11, click on the small down arrow below library and select media sharing. Check the box for share my media then turn on you console. I dialog box will pop up asking you to approve file sharing. You can then customize your options for that device. If the dialog box dose not pop up you have a firewall problem. For the Iomega Media Drive, you have to use the software that came with it. Open the program click on configure, select the folders icon, and look next to your media folders and make sure DLNA is on otherwise your console cannot access those folders.

You may require a driver to work with your device. Try downloading driver from company's web site.

Wont install to computer

On the Archos:
In the settings menu from the front screen, set your Archos to 'PC Hard Drive' instead of Windows Media Player.
If it doesn't show as an external hard drive when you plug it into your pc, do this....

On the pc:
Go to Start\run, type diskmgmt.msc and click ok to take you into Disk Management.
Your Archos should show as a drive in here and you can associate your new drive with a drive letter.

If you cannot see your Archos in this windowafter you've set it to 'PC Hard Drive' on the Archos, then you may have a dodgy usb cable.

Hope this helps......

Downloading pictures

Make sure your Archos is set up as a PC Hard Drive in the settings and plug it into your pc via the USB.
Your pc should recognise it straight away as an external drive.
You should then be able to drag and drop photos, music, avi's, flash games etc.

Syncing my Windows Media Player playlist over to a 605

PROBLEM SOLVED!

Go to the Archos website and type in your model number - my case 605 WiFi - and it shows you a list of firmware downloads. Just click to download the latest firmware update which you should save in your desktop - it's about 45Mb-. Once te download is complete open My Computer on your PC and click on teh Archos icon which takes you to internal hard drive icon, click on this icon and paste the update (aos) file from your desktop into this level of teh Archos - Don't paste it into any of the folders as it wont work!

When you disconnect your Archos from your PC it will display that it has found an update and would you like to install it, click on Yes and Voila! WMP playlist will now sync properly to the Archos!

Hope this helps you teh way it helped me.

Cheers

Think i have broken my archos 605

Go to the archos website on your PC and download the latest firmware. Once you have the firmware downloaded to your desktop, connect your archos to the PC with your usb cable.
The computer should recognise the archos as an external drive.
Open the archos drive on your desktop and drag the new firmware into the window. The computer will copy the new firmware onto the Archos drive.
DO a safe disconnect from your pc and restart your archos. The new frimware should start to load itself on your Archos when it powers up. You will need to reconnect the usb cable for the downlaod to start running. Once it is finished it will restart itself again. You will probably need to recalibrate your touch screen interface as well. You need to use the buttons on the side of the unit to scroll through the menu to get to the "settings" screen, and then the "display" screen. Choose "calibrate touchscreen" and follow the instructions.

I hope this helped.

Firmware upgrade results in arclibrary boot failure

I managed to overcome the problem by doing a factory reset. Unfortunately doing this initially created more problems in that on reboot the main screen appearance looked as it should but was almost inoperable. When the usb cable was connected to my pc the disc did appear on My Computer . The system folder was only 1MB. By good fortune I had copied and saved my Archos files before I carried out the factory reset. Copying the original system files ( about 20MB) back to my Archos returned normal behaviour. Further, two additional buttons appeared. One was a manual arclibrary update button and the other a USB setup button . I cannot get file transfer to operate under windows media player mode and Windows media player 11. No problem though. I use PC hard drive mode and carry out a manual arclibrary update. None of this was possible prior to the factory reset. I believe I would still be having serious problems had I not saved and restored my system files
