No, and it's a potential fire/explosion hazard! You have probably lost the fiber or plastic liner that prevents this; it's a small disk that fits inside of the fuel cap. Purchase a new fuel cap for your machine ASAP!

get a rubber hose that is just a little bigger than the gas line. slice it and wrap around hole. clamp tight with hose clamp *NOT TOO TIGHT THOUGH* you dont want to bend the line or crack the tubeing.

Very possibly could have a hole, or rusted off of it's perch. Get a mirror and a flash light, and when the gas gets low enough, take a look in the tank.

I am having the same problem with my 1850 as well. I borrowed the cap off my lawn mower but the vibration was still pushing gas out of the top of it as well. I cut out a thick piece of rubber and put it inside the cap, that sealed the leak but now the engine dies after about 5 mins of running. I suspect that the cap is now too tight and that it is creating a vacuum in the tank. I am going to call Coleman tomorrow to see about getting a proper replacement cap, which I hear are available.

i self tapping screw into the vent and a set of pliers to remove the vent if the vent its self is not threaded in there...if its threaded in..just screw it out ..you may have to losen the antivibe rubbers to gain access to the vent
