Lots of ladies share your problem which is not easily overcome, especially if your waist is larger rather than smaller...

You really need to try on several costumes to find the best fit and in the lower price ranges you are likely to discover considerable variation between garments of the same theoretical size.

This is because the fabric tends to be cut to a tolerance rather than an exact size.

If your waist is smaller I suggest you choose a garment that provides the best fit for your hips and bust but if your waist is larger, practically speaking, you will have little choice and will need to buy to suit your waist and either compromise on the bust/hip fit or have a seamstress make a few slight alterations.

Good luck!

Hi, Deb This is a rather bizarre question coming from a woman and I normally don't fool with such nonsense, but in my humble opinion, I would go with the bust and hip size. Good luck and have a wonderful day.

SOURCE: Ideal waist size. According to Dr,Aaron R Folsom

The relation is 0.8 (or 4/5). If it is kept linear, for 35" hips, the waist would be 28".
Cheers! Carlos

How to Choose the Right Swimwear to Suit Your Shape

Bathing suits and bikinis are a source of great stress for some people.
It doesn't matter how good the celebrities look in the magazines in their designer bikinis - most people worry a lot about the way they look at the pool.
I've written a guide below for different body types so you can work out what kind of swimwear will best flatter your individual shape.
Firstly you need to read through the different types and figure out what category your body shape fits in to.
Ultimately you should be sitting by the pool feeling good about your swim wear and not be feeling self conscious.

Big Chested:
  • If your top half is much bigger than your bottom half it can be really hard to find something suitable.
  • Go for mix and match separtes or a costume that has gathered fabric at the waist. You're looking to create a division between your chest and hips.
Small Bust:
  • You need to look for bikinis that play up the bustline. Bright patterns and bottom halves that are high waist will help make your legs the focal point and yet still be feminine.
Pear Shaped:
  • If you're pear shaped you can use cut away shapes and and unusual shapes to flatter that parts of your body that you are confident with ie your waist whilst drawing attention away from wider hips.
Large Size:
  • Plus-size women are enjoying swim wear that comes with a skirt attached. examples are swimdresses or using a sarong. You can them emphasize cleavage etc but not overly focus on areas you might feel self conscious about in a swim suit such as thighs.
  • Avoid over patterned materials.

Can you advise me how to us Simplicity pattern 8065. I am not sure about the sizing , never used pattern girls plus. I need a size 10-12Chest:69 cm, Waist 61 cm, Hips 74 cm.

You need to study how to alter a pattern to fit your measurements. Most often, it is recommended to purchase a pattern to fit the bust and then alter the others to fit. You can go to the library and check out some pattern fitting books.

The best thing is to purchase some inexpensive fabric, ie muslin, and use it to make a trial garment. Making a trial garment will help you fit it to your body plus you don't waste your nice fabric on something that won't fit.

How high should a ballet bar be fixed on the wall?

A general rule of thumb is that a barre should be placed at a level between the users hips and waist. The standard height is said to be 3.5 feet; however if you are teaching younger children, you will need to adjust the height to suit them.
