Very old GE oven D10401WH Serial SAD92118 doesn't properly. Seems to heat although the temp light isn't working on Broil. Heats minimally on Bake , I unhooked and tested the bake elelement (23 ohms). Testing voltage on the bake leads into the oven shows 121 volts on bake, 32 on timed bake and 240 on broil. Should the bake leads show voltage on broil? Do the different voltage levels indicate I have a power problem or possibly a switch problem? Thanks.
On these older ovens ther is usually always 120 volts on the elements at all times.
If you check across the element ends with it in bake you should read 240V. If not, there is a problem with the control. With the voltage drop you describe, it sounds like you are losing power on one line of voltage coming to the element.
Post back to let me know what you find out or if you have any questions.
It will either be in the bake/broil switch or the thermostat or possibly the timer. I don't have any information on your specific model number, I am just going on how they were built in general. There should be a wiring diagram inside the control panel unless it has been removed at some time.
If you measure across the terminals with the oven off you should not read any voltage. You should get 120v from either terminal to ground with the oven off.
If you are getting 120 across the terminals with it in bake, then one of the switches is closing to ground instead of closing to line voltage. The 32 volt reading when in time bake also points to the selector switch not making a good connection.
If the broil is working properly, then most likely the problem is the selector switch. If it were the thermostat it should effect the broil also.

I just read about both elements on in broil. This is almost certainly a selector switch problem unless someone has been working on it and crossed some wires up.

Thanks. Is the control you mention the broil/bake switch? Also, should 120 volts be across the brake leads with the oven off? I only got readings with the oven on. Another problem is with the setting on broil both the broil and bake elements get hot?
oven will start to heat up then shut off and bake light will start flashing
just need help figuring out what is going on. I replaced a limit switch. Could a bad high limit switch be causing the problem. Both switches are closed at room temp.
the oven section of my Kenmore elite cooktop range will not heat. All the light functions work. My wife noticed the keypad console trying to bake than broil than the circular convection oven light will circulate. Not heating.
