If you haven't received the answer by now you need a service manual to show you how much Voltage is required then make any adjustments and your radio should work fine .

Hi,

To my knowledge and depending on what board your Cobra 29GTL used, R46 is 47ohms dropping resistor after the switched 12V. Its output is then filtered by C20, 100uF/16V. While it is true that a shorted C20 would burnout R46, the issue is most likely a shorted FET2 (P/N 2SK104H). Should FET2 proved to be shorted, then it is very possible also that inductor/coil near FET2 is defective (LT-A108?).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Check bias and check your SWR. Also make sure your coax is not excessively leaky, and also check the loading coil inside the antenna to make sure the coil connections have not become all corroded and that their connections are sound.

SOURCE: i have an cobra 148 gtl no transmit

If theres no carrier its either the finals or driver. If theres no audio its the white wire in the plug that screws into the radio..its either broke or most likely come unsoldered. It keys but no audio.

Testimonial: "Thanks James an hour a go I have change the final and the drivers but still no transmit.Any suggestion more thanks"

Have a cobra 2000 gtl has no output on am but has recieve? works fine on ssb. final and driver replaced.

could be a blown tx diode in am.you would be better off taking it to a tech and let him fix it then to mess with it and have something else go wrong.

148 gtl cobra cb radio and the rx/tx light stay on

This sounds like a problem with the MB3756 Regulator IC. It controls voltage regulation and TX/RX Switching. It is a common failure in these radios. Check voltages with schematic that can be found at

Cobra 1000 will not receive or transmit.

Sounds like a problem with the VCO / PLL Circuit since nothing happens in RX or TX. Check to make sure you have the correct supply voltages to start with and also check to see if you have 10.240Mhz. Use the service manual and go through the PLL/VCO alignment section. If anything is missing then you at least know where to look.

My cobra148gtl will not transmit

First check voltage of IC 4 (mb 3756) pin #8 in TX mode should be 8.0 volts. Check the voltage of the center leg of Tr36 (Final) and of Tr38 (Driver) RX=13.78 volts DC, TX=4.5 to 6.5 volts..

Can I take phinals out of my cobra 29 mobile and put them in my Cobra 100 gtl base

no, they are completely different finals. The cobra 29 only has one, the 1000 has 2, one for side band and one for am.
