I was having a similar problem with my M515. I had originally installed the Palm Desktop from my CD, which was an older version. When I totally uninstalled the old version and installed the newer version from the Palm website I was able to do a successful sync. I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate and Palm Desktop version 4.1.4

usually its a failure in the digitizer itself. Often this is due to using a pen or other device rather than the stylus.

a band aid fix, if the hook and loop is wore out, but the pad is ok, is to get a peel and stick hook and loop pad that you can stick on the pad

You may perform full reset by pressing the reset and power button together. If issue persists you may try disconnecting the battery about 10 minutes and connect back. That procedure will erase all user data and will set the unit to the factory default
