I have a sony DAV-HDX265. I've tried running a dvd cleaner disk, but that did nothing. I can play one dvd, but the next one simply wont play. I bought these in the United States, so I highly doubt this is a region problem. Any suggestions? Take the sony apart and physically clean the lens?
Some DVDs won't play error could either be the problem of your DVD disc or your player. And you can check your disc firstly. And then play them on a Windows PC or other player to see if they play normally.
If the problem still exists, then you'd better take assistant of some profession DVD ripper to convert them to MP4 or other forms. I highly recommend WinX DVD Ripper, which helps backup, rip DVD to MP4 in only 3 simple steps. Most importanly, it is the only DVD ripper accelerated by Intel CPU, Nvidia GPU, AMD, Multi-core CPU & Hyper-Threading.

You could try checking the DVD discs in a region free player program to see if the DVD is playable. You could try Leawo Blu-ray Player which can play Blu-ray and DVD discs from any region. If the DVD discs can't be played on this player, then it's highly possible that the DVD disc is unplayable.
