SOURCE: how do you replace left lid lock on Maytag Neptune washer

Problem may be with door switch and not the door lock. If you are able you could try to locate the switch and jump the two wires together to see if the od code goes away. Even if it works you should not leave it that way but get a new switch and replace the faulty one.

SOURCE: I posted a problem with a Neptune top load washer

The lid lock is bad part # is left side  25001048 runs around $80,the problem tends to stem from the dispensers water and bleach work their way into the switch and I have never had much luck cleaning them out and getting them to work.. and that is left hand side as you are facing the machine.

I will give you a few things to try that are non technical and let’s see if the Control Board will let you in Service Mode. If so we will try lock and unlock the washer in Service Mode.
The Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.
Let enter Service Mode;
Enter the Service Mode by pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or the display reads “00”

Board Output Test
While in Service Mode, pressing the Delicates key will begin the Board Output Test. This test turns on a
specified output after a key press. (Pressing the Delicates key again cancels the test.) All outputs
will be turned off after five (5) minutes.

Now Press the Colors / Jeans key this should lock the Left and Right Lid Locks….. did it?

If the lid locked now press the Extra Rinse Key and this should Unlock the Left and Right Lid Locks….. did it?

Let me know and we will go from there. I’m trying to get a feel for what Control Board functionality you have……Rich

You will need to open the switch and short the switch using a wire, if what you meant is that there is a switch failure which will not start the program and so the motor will not start on the machine.

There is a right lid lock and a left lid lock which did you change? The left lid lock is a lock and the reed switch which tells the machine control the lid is closed and can start the cycle.

I’ll try to help I’ll try to help looks like you are into some troubleshooting my kind of forum member.
The signaling for the Lid is latched the “Locked” Led comes from the Left lid lock here is the part number 25001048 and a link. I would start by removing the Left Han Lid Lock and inspect for corrosion as I go thru in this post.
See that post will get you started.
I discuss the “OD” error code but troubleshooting will start here with that Left Hand Lid Lock. The FAV6800A and FAV9800A have big time corrosion issues with that Lid Left hand Lid Lock with it location next to the Bleach Dispenser.
Some additional Pic’s to clean up the Slide Witch in the Left Hand Lid Lock.

MY MAYTAG NEPTUNE MODEL FAV6800AWQ KEEPS DISPLAYING THE LETTERS OP

You have lost signaling thru the Left Hand lid Lock. The washer has not see the lid go closed thru the signaling with the magnetic reed relay in the Left Hand Lid Lock.

You could have a Lid Magnet out of position or severe corrosion. You can place a large magnet over the Left bumper like this and see if the OP error code clears;

fcda3a4.jpg

See this post for troubleshooting the OP error code Left Hand Lid Lock Troubleshooting I go over OD error code troubleshooting but you troubleshoot the issue the same way for the OP error code.

If the Lid Magnet is not out of position you may have an open circuit thru the Magnetic Reed Relay as shown in the Pics of this link Left Hand Lid Lock Troubleshooting.
The p/n for the Left Hand Lid Lock is 25001048

"od" alarm on neptune tl

Hey geonkarla637,

Good job on troubleshooting, let’s focus on the Left Hand Lid Lock. It has the dual signaling functions to allow the Machine to operate as designed. The first signaling function is “Lid is Open/Lid Closed” signaling the “OP” error code for lid is OPEN if you press the Start button at the Start of a cycle or during a pause and resume portion of a cycle and “OD” error code if the machine has not seen the lid open for three completed machine cycles your issue. The second signaling function is “Failed to Lock” the “FL” error code.

Because the Control Board programming is looking for the contact open/closure transitions at appropriate times of the wash cycle from the Magnetic Reed Relay in the left lid lock. I see no way to fool it by bypassing the magnetic reed relay in the Left Hand Lid lock assembly and have the machine work as designed.

What I would do next is remove the Left Lid Lock and very carefully open it up. I found it is very easy to break off the enclosure locking tabs. I use a fine flat jewelers screw driver and X-acto blade and work around the locking tabs to open the case halves. I wedge small paper clip ends in the case halves as I work around the tabs. Again I stress they break off in a heartbeat take it slow and no coffee for 24hrs before you begin this operation …. (:

How do the black and red wire on the reed relay look? If they look like this I would take a low wattage soldering iron fine pencile tip 25W no more than 60W iron and solder back on the broken end if that has happened. If you don’t want to deal with that you need to replace the Left Hand Lid Lock .

I would also use a drop or two of WD-40 on the slide switch in that signals “Lid Is Locked”. I’m going to include a pic of my attempt to document the Left Hand Lid Lock Control Board inputs and signaling outputs. I have labeled the Pins on that lock assembly for my reference, I cannot correlate them one for one to the schematic packed in the machine console. I have measured and watched the +12VDC input and output transitions with my DVM for the Lid Is Closed and Lid is Locked on the Control Board at connector P3. If your Left Hand Lid Lock is signaling correctly out of the assembly then I would trace the +12VDC signaling back to the control board. From your previous troubleshooting you have insured there is no corrosion on the male Left Hand Lid Lock assembly and the mating plug end.

Please let me know what you find, I hope this helps; I’m a rookie owner still learning how to troubleshoot/repair the machine.

As a side note I unplugged the Right Hand Lid Lock and taped up the plug end. I would never replace that lid lock if it failed my choice; I find it helps to simplify troubleshooting.
Good Luck …………..Rich

Maytag neptune tl washer lock not working my husband bought it used so I have no manuals I was able to run a load blaech water to clean it but now it just keeps flashing "od" I've left it...

If you are still having issues; The OD alarm is signaled by the control board when it has not see a lid open signal from the left lid lock for three completed wash cycles. Issue could be a lid magnet out of position or corrosion issues with the left lid lock and or plug connecting to the left lid lock. Take a look at his post. It’s for OP alarm issues associated with the left lid lock but it will give you a start point for troubleshooting. Post back if you have questions. Links for the the SM and parts for the Left Hand Lid Lock replacement info are in that post.

Maytag Neptune keeps giving us the OP signal

Hello Kristi,
If its FAV6800A/FAV9800A try placing couple 1” dia magnets or similar magnet on the left bumper of the machine and see if that will clear the the “OP” lid open alarm, see pic attached. If that clears the alarm the lid magnet may have moved out of position in the inner lid. See page 33 of the FAV6800A/9800A Service Manual for its location. If that doesn’t clear the “OP” alarm remove 120VAC to the machine and try reseating the left lid lock plug into the left lid lock a few times to possible clear corrosion causing loss of signaling from the left lid lock to the control board Lid Is Closed input. See page 33 and 34 of the SM for pics if the left lid lock and lid magnet. I recommend surge protection on the120VAC outlet powering the machine to help protect the washer control board. Good luck Rich.
Place some external magnets on left bumper and see if that will clear the "OP" alarm.

Try reseating the left lid lock plug into the left lid lock. Be careful, it may be difficult to remove for the 1st time.

Maytag neptune washer

The lid lock is on the right side but the switch that senses if the lid is locked is on the left side. Could be that the sensing switch is loose or faulty. You could try to bypass it BUT only to see if that is the problem. NEVER leave it in the bypassed position.

Maytag Neptune Lid Lock Replacement

I have replaced my right lid lock twice and the second one just went bad. The left one does not matter, only the right one tells the washer the lid is locked. I think the bleach cup is the problem, bleach corodes the metal contacts in the lock. Try removing the plug and cleaning the contacts. I am going to bypass this lock I am not buying any more parts for this unit!
People have reported replacing this lock several times in unser two years.
