How do I replace the battery on our phone - GE model 2-9290C

If you mean the long-life lithium backup battery for the corded 2-line GE 2-9421 (A indicating the sales region), that is a 3V Lithium battery. The part number 5-1923 appears to be a common CR2032 coin cell battery. These are used as backup batteries for Eraseable Programmable ROM on many devices, including computers..
