SOURCE: I have a Samsung DVD -VR 357 combo unit and i can't record
I have the Samsung dvd-vr 357. I have had a couple problems with it but I called samsung and they walked me through fixing it each time. I don't know if you have tried this or not but that is my suggestion. The last problem I had was copying from vcr to dvd. I got audio but no video. Problem was it was on dvd when i started it, it should have been on vrc. It should be set on whichever one you are recording from. Hope this helps someone.
With cable input connected to "RF in"on rear of unit make sure vidoe input is set to "Tuner". This will show up on the TV screen. Change channels numerically or using up/down arrow keys on DVR remote. Note there is a slight pause between changing channels. You probably will have to "autoscan" for channel setup/etc. If you say your TV set is old; it probabaly is equiped with coax
connection only/set TV channel to "3" or "4". when yot opt to play vcr/dvd it will override your
cable channel selected. Hope this helps!
Thank you ryolkowski!!!! We just tried your solution and MAN it worked like a damn. We were all ready to make a trip to the city to get a new tv, an expense we just didn't need right now. You made our day. I can't thank you enough. jabo

Wish I knew the answer ... I have the same problem after switching to Dish Network (Satellite). It worked fine with Time Warner Cable. I'm suspecting the signal over Dish is analog (NTSC) which is not supported by this particular TV. I wish I still had the box and receipt!

Why would this happen and how can it be rectified? The tv part has only been used once as we bought it for the caravan. It worked then, but we've mainly used the DVD part and that was only for about 6 movies. The tv should be working.
