SOURCE: Need help with wiring thermostat

first do you have a heat pump unit or standard a/c? standard a/c connections at the thermostat go like this red wire to rh-rc which is the 24v power and you don't have to remove the jumper.white goes to w which is the heating wire yellow goes to y which is the cooling wire green goes to g which is the fan wire and blue goes to c which is the common wire. so if your stat has rc- rh ywgc you should be set if the wires on the furnace correspond with the same alpha designation.orange may be used if u have a heat pump unit otherwise it may just be a spare you cap off and leave behind the subplate.

SOURCE: Installing thermostat - extra wire?

you have to go down to your furnace and follow the thermostat wire ...it connects to a terminal strip or fan centre...the color doesn;t really matter...installers mix and match all the time....look at the furnace wiring and mark it down...Red on "R"...Green on "Y" whatever it is...and connect it accordingly upstairs...if you only have 4 thermostat wires downstairs you will need a jumper wire between RH and RC...if you have 5 wires you will see 2 wires on "R" at the furnace.,...and connect either to RH and RC at the thermostat

Wiring with only 2 wires; which terminals to connect?

See RC and RH, RC is for cool, RH is for heat, you wire the red wire to the RH or red terminal ,either one will work actually but we generally switch the hot leg of power, W is the heat circuit

739dfb58-7a38-4a51-a7ed-ab942a7253a0.pngRH is red heat and RC is red cool, red being the "hot leg" of the 24 volt control voltage, normally you will have a jumper from RH to RC, the fact there is an RC tells me there must be an RH too?
I will look after this post and come back if any new info was found, other wise I will say call 1800 Honeywell and provide you a diagram to check out.

HOW CAN I TELL WHICH RED WIRE IS RC AND WHICH IS RH? THE WIRES COMING FROM MY WALL ARE NOT LABELED AND ARE THE COLORS 2 WHITES 2 REDS AND 1BLUE

This is a fairly hard question to answer. Evidently someone has run two sets of wires to your thermostat. One set has three wires in it: red, blue and white. The other set has two wires in it: red and white. One or maybe both red wires is the rc and rh wire. RC and RH actually wire together with a jumper wire. The RC and RH wire is usually the red wire that goes to the "R" on you furnace circuit board. If you can find out which red wire goes to "R" on your furnace circuit board you will solve the problem.

I purchased a rth2310b and connected the red wire to the RC and white to w the green to g. It still will not start furnace. This is a gas forced air.

I think there is connection labeled Rh. The reason for having Rc and Rh is that some units have a transformer for the heating unit and seperate on for the cooling unit. If you only have 1 transformer then they have a jumper between Rc & Rh. Rh being for heating and Rc for cooling. Hope this helps. Let me know what you find.

I just bought a repo house and there is no identification on the wires coming out of the wall for the thermostat. I have a red, green, white, and blue wire coming out of the wall. I need to know where to...

The best way is to see where the wires are connected at the furnace and duplicate them at the thermostat but typically the connections are:
Red wire to "RC and RH"
White wire to "W" (for heating)
Blue wire to "Y" (if you have central air)
Green wire to "G" (this is for the furnace blower)

Your house might be older.  Are your receptacles two-prong, or three?
I would ignore the missing "G" wire, and connect Red to both Rc and Rh, and Y to Y, and W to W.
