GE Monogram ZFSB26DNA installed 2002. Cools fine. When compressor goes off, makes a sound like ca-CLUNK-CLUNK. Been doing it years but getting on our nerves. Repairman says compressor is bad. Is it?

Model ZFSB26DNA, GE Monogram, installed 2002. Side by side model. Refrigerator and freezer cool fine. Thank you!

SOURCE: Refrigerator/freezer gets warm intermittently

sounds like your thermostat is faulty
the thermostat reads the temperature of the cabinet and controls the temperature
the 1 thing to check on the uprights is the evaporator is in the freezer and that makes the cool then there is a fan that blows the air around the fridge and freezer to freeze things
now there is a cycle that hapens to cycle usualy every 12 hours and that is the defrost cycle
this cycle turns off the compressor and fan turns on an defrost element on the evaporator and heats up the coils to get rid of the ice
the ice turns to water and runs through a drain to a evaporator tray and when the cycle is finished the fridge stars up again and goes into the cooling state again
when the thermostat decides that the fridge is cold enough it turns of the compressor and so on it goes through the cycles as required
if the drai is blocked or the defrost system is not working the evaporator will get choked with ice and the fan will not beable to let air through to cool things off

SOURCE: ge refrigerator model gss22wgph bb

Carben,

I have the same problem and I am able to resolve it by defrosting the element which is behind the inside rear panel of the freezer. I use a hair dryer to melt the ice build up. It happbed a couple of times so I know that there is a cause for this which may be the defrost heater but I am not sure how to confirm this. Let me know if you have any ideas.

SOURCE: GE Monogram freezer side working but refrigerator side is not.

Did you clean the condenser?  Is the unit FULLY defrosted?   Defrost fully!!!!!!
Did he check the amount of gas in the unit?  If your unit has low gas...it is in need of more.  R12 is expensive.
Check gas level:  Shut unit for at least one hour.  View compressor.  Several pipes...we're looking at the largest.  Start the unit.  This pipe will begin to frost.  If it does not clear to dry, ice or wet...stays frosted...it is low.  Get the repair guy back ... but ask how much he'll charge first.

Why my GE Monogram ziss480drjss is making loud knocking noise in every 4-5 minutes interval?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLR2vKxgwbM

A freezer compressor is what pumps chilled Freon -- or another cooling agent -- through coils that line the freezer compartment. ... The cooling agent inside the compressor is sensitive to being moved around, which can cause knocking noises. Also, loose components can cause knocking sounds.

I have a GE Monogram ziss48daass 48" side by side that appears to have a compressor problem. With the upper decorative panel removed, the refrigerator cools OK, but he compressor case temp is 219 degrees...

Make sure the condenser fan is working and the condenser coils are clean. The temperatures are very hot but this could be because there is no air flowing through the condenser coils,

Ge monogram zfsb23d howls

Usually you will get a sort of whinning/screeching noise from the fans inside the fridge/frezzer when they are not working properly but you can also get that howling noise from the fan which cools the compressor for the fridge/frezzer which is usually found underneath the Unit. All you have to do is find exactly where the noise is coming from and remember unless you have a dog that likes to lock itself in the fridge for a joke then most noises that come from fridge/frezzers are only made from the moving mechanical parts and sometimes leaking refridgerants but not often.

We have an 11 year old fisher-paykel fridge .For past 6 months several times a day it makes a loud knocking noise

If this noise happens when the compressor turns on and shuts off it is called a compressor knock. All the internal workings of the compressor are supported by springs, over time the springs wear out and become weak. When the compressor stops or starts the tourq causes the internal parts to hit aginst the casing of the compressor. Sounds like a clunk clunk clunk noise. If you can deal with the noise do not go out and replace the compressor cause it will work just fine like that.

I have a 1995 24.5 cu. ft. GE Profile refrigerator. When it shuts off there is a loud clunk. I think it could be the compressor turning off. Other than that it seems to be working fine. Is this a serious...

The compressor is sitting on springs inside a metal case. When it stops, the centrifical force is absorbed by these springs. If one or more springs become weak or break, the compressor hits against the outer case a time or two. (CLUNK CLUNK clunk) There is really nothing you can do about it, short of replacing the compressor. (read big bucks) NOTE: If you take a new compressor and give it a shake, you will hear the same clunk. If the noise is really bothering you, I'd say after 15 years, it's time to move that refrig to the basement and get a new energy star model for your kitchen. (the old one most likely has several more years worth of clunking before it truely dies)

GE Monogram side by side compressor runs loud - sounds like rapid knocking. what can i do?

check if it is the fan make that noise and not the compressor but if it is the compressor then you might need a new starter unit to the compressor

Kenmore top freezer, Refrierator shuts off with loud clunk.

It sounds like you may have a compressor that is working hard against high pressure due to a dirty condenser or a condenser fan not running or blocked. If all is well otherwise, the mounting springs inside the compressor may have broken or are weak. The only fix then is a new compressor.

GE Monogram Bev Center no longer cooling

Depend how old it is, Monogram does have a better warranty then regular appliances, sounds like it may have a bad power supply board in the back. It may have a compressor problem but the circut board  is more likely. It would probably be worth  having a GE tech to come and give you an estimate a the very least. Only because if you purchase the new board and install it, most places will not accept returns on electronic parts. Hope this helped.
