I just changed the (2) ink cartridges in my HP PCS 1610 All-in-One HP printer and now get an error message "CARRIAGE JAM - OPEN DOOR. CLEAR CARRIAGE JAM, AND THEN PRESS OK." I don't see any jam...

Have you tried moving the carriage to see if it really is jammed? Maybe you haven't put the levers down properly on your new cartridges....remove them, see if the carriage slides, then refit them and check the carriage again. You wont visually 'see' a carriage jam,; you have to try moving it. By the way, if it doesn't move, DONT force it to try and overcome the jam try and reason out why it doesn't move.
Hope this helps!

Carriage Jam Error on HP Printer

There is nothing much to do if you get a Carriage Jam error. We can give a try to solve it ( Usually carriage jam error results in Hardware failure )

Follow the instructions below to resolve Carriage Jam issue.
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Open the rear access door ( or duplexer )
  3. Check for any bits of paper stuck, if so, remove them.
  4. Open the front access door where you see the cartridges. Check for any paper pieces, if so, remove them.
  5. Move the carriage manually 5-6 times from left to right. The carriage should move freely. ( Do not apply force )
  6. If the Carriage does not move freely, try to remove the cartridges and close the rear and front access door.
  7. Power on the printer and it will prompt you for missing cartridges.
  8. Install the Cartridges. If it does not prompt you for cartridges missing, you will find Carriage Jam Error on the screen
  9. This indicates the printer is faulty and needs repair

In any condition if you are not able to fix the issue, Contact HP ( 1-800-474-6836 ) If the printer is In-Warranty please contact HP for replacement. HP may charge for repair for Out of Warranty printer

Regards,Ron

Error message= open door clear carriage jam and

I think the message is instructions, as in
(1) open door (2) clear carriage jam (3) press enter
So there is something internal to the printer that makes it think it has a carriage jam, piece of paper under a sensor, dirty or stuck sensor.
If you can't find it using a bright light, try canned air.

Carriage jam - Turn machine on, get carriage jam message, however the carriage can move freely if moved by hand. If I close and hit enter, carriage sounds like it's moving, then I get the error message...

Sorry about the B.S., you can move the carriage by hand, and all you need is to clean the encoder strip that runs across behind the carriage assembly. You can wipe the strip gently with an alcohol swab or a Q-tip moist with alcohol. The bars on that strip tell the carriage where it is and grease or ink on it will give the carriage jam error. No calibration necessary after moving the head or cleaning the strip.

Carriage jam error

The Jam error is most likely cause by one or more of the sensor flags these are the plastic usually black things hanging along the paper path. One of those are either stuck or broken. Check the path and look for those items.

Carriage jam

Usually when the printer displays a carriage jam error the carriage assembly is jamming along the carrige path.
There may be something in the carriage path or the carriage shaft may need lubricating.
Check the area where the carriage is has stoped. There might be an obstruction visible.
