SOURCE: How do you set up wireless printing w/the canon PIXMA MX700?

Hi Coach!

Here is a tutorial that will explain most of the basic steps to sharing your printer. It will walk you thru how to set it up.
With the Canon, MX700, on each machine you connect to the printer, you will have to have the driver CD. When XP asks for the drivers, just put the CD, and XP will find it drives it need. This whole process will go smoother, if you use a printer cable and not the USB. If you need the drivers, you can get them on the Canon site.
Good luck,

I have a canon mp180 and I want to set it up wirelessly do I need to purchase new software to do so or is there a way to do it without

It is notpossible to connect this printer wirelessly to your wireless network because it only has an USBconnection to a computer, unless you attach this printer to a print server andthen to a wireless router.
Alternatively you can set up this printer as a Shared printer on a computer onyour 10baseT LAN network. Other computers on your network can then printer tothis printer provided the computer with the printer is switched on (booted up).

I have a IBM R51 think pad lap top computer I want to be able to print when not connected to the computer in other words when I am wireless not in the same room as the printer I want to be able to print . ...

If you attach this printer to a desktop computer with a network card and you have a wireless router.
Then you set up the printer as a shared printer and connect the desktop to the wireless router with a LAN cable. To send a print from your laptop then the printer and desktop computer need to be switched on.
If you let me know what equipment you have got then I can advise you the most cost effective way for you to set up a network printer.

Using the Canon PIXMA MP240 printer wirelessly

In order to do this, the laptops have to be able to communicate with each other wirelessly. I.e., you have to have a wireless network set up. If you do, then you are "printer sharing", using one laptop as the 'printer server' (with the printer connected to it) and the other as the 'client'. Step by step instructions are available at this link. Type "printer sharing" in the search box in the center of the screen and click on the Search button. Select the option that matches your requirements.
