I've had dozens of Stihl saws, Brushcutter's and hedgetrimmers, worked in a Stihl shop previously, but now stuck on my FS200. The single fuel mixture screw is reverse-threaded, and must need more than 1 or 2 turns.
does anybody here actually know the correct number of turns it needs?

SOURCE: ryobi 31cc lawn trimmer carb adjustment

As with all 2 strokes if you have compression and a reasonable spark, you only need fresh fuel with correct oil ratio) and they must go !(as long as you haven't fiddled first and all gaskets are sealing) I start mine by(1) pumping the primer till it is firm,(2) full choke,(3) pull till it kicks ONCE,(4) half choke, pull till it runs, allow to warm up and(5) switch to run (you may need to apply a bit of throttle while pulling as in (4)(or give it a few more pumps if it dies) If all is ok, check that when properly warmed up there is a smooth transition from idle to full revs, if it hesitates it may need the LOW SPEED mixture leaning (clockwise) SLIGHTLY.If it dies the LOW SPEED mixture may need richening(anti-clockwise)(adjust 1/8 turn at a time) Make sure that motor is just peaking at full revs and is on the RICH side of peaking (HIGH SPEED mixture)(this will avoid seizing it Adjust both till it revs cleanly and is JUST rich at full, and idleing nicely and it should start without too much trouble.(If you have fiddled and are lost,-about 2 1/2 turns out from closed on both needles should get you started)

SOURCE: I don't know where the air/fuel mixture screw is on my carb

There should be one screw (I'm assuming it's the Carter YF carburetor 1 barrel) that's by itself away from linkages etc, more to center at base of carb where it meets manifold, that is angled approx 45 degrees going in to base. That should be your mixture screw. What symptoms are you experiencing anyway?

I have a Stihl multitool. It runs fine for a few minutes, ant then it will not rev. I've cleaned the exhaust screen. Could it be a bad coil?

unlikely
it may need the metering screws adjusted to maintain the correct mixture at open throttle
Take it in to a Stihl shop for a diagnosis and quote

Carb settings for Stihl FS160

Here's a link to your owner's manual, look at page 26 for carburetor adjustments,I have 3 stihl's,a blower, weedeater and chain saw,had them a long time, never had to adjust the carb. What problems are you having?Clean your air filter or replace it if's real dirty and can't get clean, use 50;1 regular unleaded gas and oil mixture, put a new plug in it,same as you were using,Autozone has them cheaper than the Stihl dealer. Are you using your choke and throttle correctly when starting? On mine,I set the throttle, lock it in,put choke on close, pull a few times,no more than 5,then open choke and pull,it should start,is your spark plug getting oil-gas on it,if so then your flooding it at start up,use fresh gas mixture.I wouldn't adjust the carb. https://www.stihlusa.com/WebContent/CMSFileLibrary/instructionmanuals/FS160_180_Manual.pdf

Adjustment knob settings on stihl ms 362

Turn the High mixture screw out 1 1/4 turns from fully seated position.
Turn the Low muxture screw out 1 1/2 turns from fully seated position.
Make sure that your fuel mix is 50:1 and that your Air Cleaner and Spark plug are clean.
If your Stihl is still not running correctly, clean your exhaust screen and muffler thoroughly as this can cause performance issues if not clean.

I have a stihl 025. the carb i had had 1 adjustment the replacement carb has 2 set screws, what should the settings be to get started with

Usually when purchasing a new Carb, they are set very close. No adjustment needed. But if you want to play, turn both the High and Low screws all the way in then turn them bot out about 1.5 turns. that should get it started. The you will need to tweak the High sped and then the low speed and then the Idle

Need to tune sthil fs74 line trimmer

Hi chris tanti
Before you remove or try to adjust your low and high speed jets you should always count the number of turns it takes to lightly seat the idle mixture screw and high speed needle adjusting screws.
Be sure to write the number of turns down on a piece of paper so you will know how many turns from the seated position to open the jets when you go to reinstall them, or if you remove them for cleaning or replacement.
If you have aready tried to adjust them then the adjustments below should get it running for you for final adjustment when warm.
Normally you will adjust your idle jet to 1/2-3/4 turn open from the bottom seated position.
Then you will re-adjust the low speed of the engine when the engine is warm by turning the idle screw in or out till the engine runs smoothly at idle speed, around 1200 RPM.
The high speed jet is adjusted to 1 1/2- 1 3/4 open from the bottom seated position, after the engine is warm.
Then re-adjusted by turning the High Speed jet adjustment screw in or out till the motor runs smoothly at high speed.
Alway use the "lightly seated" method if you have not changed the screw settings.

What do you mean by LA in the chainsaw?

Locate the adjustment screws near the carburetor labeled with an "H," an "L," and an "LA." The "H" screw adjusts the high speed fuel-air mixture; the "L" screw adjusts the low speed fuel-air mixture; and the "LA" screw adjusts the idle speed.

There are three adjustments to the carbureter of the stihl wipper snipper model F585AV. One being the idle adjustment. one of the other two is the mixture adjustment. Question is, which is the mixture...

Low idle speed is one and high speed screw is the other. The idle screw is usually the one located closest to the throttle plate (closer to engine)
