Turn the dial to setup, push the menu button & select reset all. This will restore the defaults & let you use the flash again.

SOURCE: Flash not working

I figured out how to fix the flash... but not the clicking sound in the lens. To fix it... click the mode button, then go to the settings icon
(the arrow pointing at the wrench), then keep going down to the reset all part. and click okay while your on it. Your flash should work after that!

SOURCE: Horizontal lines on image

This is not a solution , but only a work around. If you do at least 1/3 zoom on your lens before clicking a photo, these lines will not appear. But this not not a convenient way I agree.
Also this surely means that the CCD is not the problem otherwise it would have never worked ( electronic parts cant simply dont start to work when you zoom ringht ? ). Surely Nikon is fixing the issue, but cheating the customers by charging for a part is not defective in the first place

How do I turn flash on and off?

The multi selector is the round control on the rear of the camera with the OK button in its center.
The flash mode button is the top button on the selector, it has a lightning flash icon.

Press the flash mode button on the multi selector.
Highlight the desired mode and press the center of the multi selector.

The flash modes are:
AUTO; Flash fires automatically when lighting is poor.
AUTO WITH RED-EYE REDUCTION; Reduces "red eye" in portraits.
OFF; Flash will not fire even when lighting is poor.
FILL FLASH; Flash fires whenever picture is taken. Use to "fill-in" (illuminate) shadows and back-lit subjects.
SLOW SYNC; Flash illuminates mainsubject; slow shutter speeds are used to capture background at night or under dim light

The selected flash mode icon appears at the top of the monitor.

How do I turn off the flash for my nikon coolpix 8800

In any of the point&shoot modes the camera will decide whether to fire the flash or not.

In the P, S, A, and M modes, press the MENU button. Select "Show all menus" and press the button in the center of the multiselector (I'll call this the OK button from here on). Scroll down to "Speedlight opt" and press OK. Select "Speedlight cntl" and press OK. Select "Internal off" and press OK.

Full details are in the "Speedlight Options" section of the manual (page 104 in my copy). If you need a manual, you may download a copy here.

How do i get the flash to work all the time on my nikon coolpix

Press cursor-up on the multiselector (marked with a lightning bolt) to bring up the flash menu. Select the lightning bolt icon and press OK.
In some scene modes you won't be able to bring up the flash menu. In this case change the shooting mode first.

How to set date in coolpixs51?

Select "Date" from the Setup menu. If you have your menu showing icons instead of words, it's the one that looks like a clock showing 9 o'clock. Be aware that the "Auto off" entry uses a similar (if not identical icon).

To get the to the Setup menu, first display the playback-mode or shooting-mode menu by pressing the MODE button. Using the rotary multiselector select the wrench icon and press the OK button.
